Investigators said it took Ramos about 30 minutes to strangle his mother with his bare hands.

This one doesn't need to be released. He won't be a productive citizen ever in his life.

Im sure with study and practice he will get faster.

(I THINK you meant to quote the part about getting released and proving he can be productive)

I'm fascinated with how people mentally deal with this sort of thing. 45 years. The kid was 15 when he did it and has been on jail since then. How much life could he have had in just those 15 years? Now all he has is walls and the scary bastards he's in them with.

Truth. But he also shouldn't be in a prison.

He should be in a facility where his brain can be studied so so can figure out what is wrong with it and how to identify it in others.

My thoughts as well.

The article doesn't say he suffered mental illness or where under the influence?

So, 30 minutes is a farking long time to contemplate what you're doing.

I assume 45 years was the actual max then, given that life was out of the question.

I do wonder WTF. was up with him, this is really special. I mean, would a sociopath even do something like this?

Yeah, that's cold AF.

But it also goes to show how unrealistic movies and media are. You know the scenes where the person smothers someone with a pillow and this is over in like 30 seconds.  Or they choke someone to death with their arms...

Two of Ramos' friends were also charged as adults with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder. While they were not present when Ramos killed his mother, they were accused of helping in his attempt to cover up the crime, according to records and investigators.

I'm not saying that it's right, but those are true friends.

I don't think there is anything wrong about contemplating something like this and empathy for the situation is not excusing the behavior. It is a legitimate question. I don't have a proposal for another way to do it, but looking at 45+ years when you are any age is one thing, but when you are a teenager, I do not think there is any way to cope with the true nature of it. It is a terrible situation that borders on cruelty, yet once again, I have no other solution for what to do with evil like this.

I am genuinely surprised more individuals like this do not commit suicide. Perhaps it is their sociopathy that prevents them from looking inward enough to end it all, or perhaps it is the idea that suicide is not exactly an easy thing in prison, I don't know. But, what I do know is that prison is a horrible place no matter what any folks may tell you, it is terrifying, dehumanizing, stressful, and miserable. I have no idea how to process the idea of going to that place when I am over 50, let alone if I was under 20 and knew going in I was either never coming out or I would not be doing so until the part of life that is worth living the most is over.

Abusive bio dad. Followed in his footsteps.

We have a somewhat similar case in Jacksonville, FL. Josh Phillips and Maddie Clifton case. He's 12 or 14 and she was 8...he hits her in the head with a ball, she starts crying and saying she will tell her parents, he's worried what his abusive dad will do to him and so he kills Maddie and keeps her body for several days in his waterbed frame.

He's got life and they're not letting him out despite many appeals. I think it's been 20 years now. The entire thing is a tragedy.

Speaking as a sociopath.

Not really. MDMA fixed me and gave me empathy. But I had one of those mothers.

So really. All you guys biatching about how terrible this person is to kill his mom. My mom is very lucky that I didn't kill her nor any of my siblings.

Note: She died a couple years ago about a thousand miles away from me. So don't blame me. But I smiled.

Honestly? My semi-educated guess is someone brought up the wrong way (not taught compassion, given enough hugs, spent time with, abused) and she said the magic words "no more video games".

/disclaimer: she might not have been the person who abused him, just lit the fuse
//not defending his actions, people who do stuff like this realize it's wrong
///lousy story. The 30 mins sound familiar. I think we had the story on here when it happened. That's 30 mins of her gasping for air, freaking out. So the people that think 45 years is too much need to imagine how this played out.

A teenager was sentenced to 45 years in prison Friday, a month after pleading guilty to charges of killing his mother and disposing of her body during an argument over his grades.

On the plus side his grades are now a moot point.

Really, at 15 you have no concept of 45 years. I remember being 17-18 and thinking and talking about our 20 year high school reunion. It seemed like forever. Last summer was 40 years since I graduated from high school. It's literally forever for a 15 year old.

That's a waste of resources. There are a lit of researchers out there that would love to study him while he's alive *and* slice up his brain when he dies. Every screwed-up violent brain we just throw away is a loss to future research and possible treatment and prevention.
