Lawmakers are taking matters into their own hands to prevent white supremacists and other extremists from joining and remaining in the military.

Wow, they're going to lose more soldiers than in WWII.

There can't be any Christians in the military, because of that whole Thou shalt not kill thing, right?

You know, after that on base, stateside, Army massacre from that one Muslim major, all forms of extremist activity were going to be rooted out.  We were told that diversity was to blame for tolerating terrorists in the ranks.  Guess someone stopped looking at the activity once the skin tones were taken into consideration.

Or maybe the tolerance for terrorists went the wrong way.

I'm okay with them doing the shiatty backbreaking jobs we usually reserve for undocumented immigrants and prisoners. Let them pick peppers in 110 degree heat in Arizona for less than minimum wage.

Thankfully Gilead doesn't exist yet

The military has banned a lot of things over the years, and has become extremely efficient at recruiting people who know how to skirt military prohibitions. Recruiters who have been winking at kids answering enlistment questionnaires for decades will simply wink a bit harder and if some kid is too stupid to take the hint then he was going to wash out in a hot minute anyway.

I take some small comfort in the knowledge that if Gilead ever does come to exist its lone survivor will be Roland Deschain.

When I first enlisted in 1974, I was asked if I was a Nazi, Klan member, communist, IWW, homosexual, drug user, alcoholic, hemophilic, diabetic, & who remembers what else, all of which would have disqualified me from enlisting. It seemed like the list of bad groups would never end. I started to wonder if the Navy was going to consist of me & the Recruiter who was asking the questions sharing a canoe because we must be eliminating a lot of men (& If Henry the Recruiter knew I was really lying & actually gay, it'd just be him a-paddlin'!).

Maybe there was something about me that kept overt racists from divulging themselves in front of me because I never actually heard one in full rant until I retired, a former shipmate whose whole family was so racist I was astounded. His mother's 2nd husband was a Native American whose skin was so dark he had to have African heritage, yet the family (3 racist sisters) blithely ignored that while batting the N-word back & forth like a shuttlecock over a badminton net. It was surreal. Christians, if course: The Church of Jesus Christ of Andersonville, IN (Reorganized, Inc.). Throw in her husband's First American albino father & I was in a weird-ass film that Sunday. I also learned they didn't eat bagels ("Jew bread") because they are made with baby blood. My ex-shipmate, who I worked with for over two years, never gave me a clue about himself or his family until I retired & stopped to see him during my long retirement trip.

One of the things I liked about being a 4th generation military brat was meeting different groups of people, eating their foods & hearing their stories. I used to joke that my parties looked like Central Casting got confused. I travelled, met divers & diverse people, learned about different cultures & foods & music ... How can people close themselves to that? Baffles me.

I knew of one Klan member Sailor who outed himself on TV during leave in Stone Mountain, GA & had some 'splainin' to do on his return to the ship in 1992: he allowed himself to be interviewed on camera. (He thought they were just "local.")

Military racists bring shame on Honorable Service. I really believe if people meet people not like them, they will find it more difficult to be prejudiced. It's easy to hate a whole group, but it's harder to hate the guy you shared a meal, a beer & some jokes with.

A cooler Gilead tho.  We'd actually want that one. Trump woulda been sent west as a boy.

Instead we'll get the 1985 white evangelical one.

To be honest, I started with "Service DOES NOT guarantee citizenship," but then I thought, strike that, reverse it, and it seemed to work better.

/Jealous much?
//In this case, we're talking about citizens who should not be in the service, so...

Good, the military needs a good pruning thanks to the forever war.

I hope this is the beginning of the end of the cult like worship of veterans which designates them automatically as heroes and the notion that service entitles one to any special treatment regardless of who you are and how you served.

But, somehow, I doubt it.

This should be no surprise whatsoever. It was literally the plan of white supremacists for the last 40 years. It is well documented that there are recruiting agents who join and stay in the military solely to bring in the new, young, usually lower intelligence, recruits into the fold.

The Air Force might end up losing a ton of officers. The Academy has a reputation of being very cozy with evangelical christianity, and the Venn diagram of rabid christians and racist shiatweasels has a lot of overlap.

When I joined the Navy, the folks assigning security clearances interviewed me about my membership in a "suspicious or subversive organization" ... known as the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). It seems the SCA raised flags in security-clearance land because they supposedly have a "government" in place and have members all over the world.. In reality, the SCA is a bunch of freaks who like to dress up as someone from the medieval period and have parties in those costumes- with a fair amount of "combat" using armor and rattan weapons.

If something as innocuous as the SCA is deemed a security risk, membership in any "militia" or similar racist collection of farkwits should be grounds for revoking security clearances and immediate discharge from service. Root 'em all out.

No, those assholes definitely deserve to do backbreaking labor in inhumane conditions for an unlivable wage.  They think they're "losing their country" or whatever, let them find out what that's really like.

Or by behavior.  It's not even one bit covert.  Most absolutely especially the Air Force.  Most especially by those in command positions.  Which should scare anyone with an ounce of sense.

And YES, autocorrect, "bosoms" is a real word.

Being rejected or being dishonorable discharged shows up on background checks and will prevent you from employment as a cop.

Also having the military define a group as a hate group that bars one from serving, also will mean that locol police will have to acknowledge all of these groups as the extremist groups that they are.

The modern Klan does not ever call themselves the Klan.  They use words like Patriot, Proud, Prayer, or Family in their names.
