austerity101: Emposter: MattytheMouse: austerity101: Just popping in to remind everyone that defunding the police is an option, and it would work. It would absolutely work a lot better than the nothing we're currently doing.

And if people think defunding is too radical, I just want to remind everybody that the Bargersville Indiana police department just got a Tesla patrol car.

And?  Teslas cost less over the lifetime of as vehicle, especially one with heavy use.

Fine with defunding the police, just confused by the Tesla reference.

Because police departments (and the cities who budget them) are known for thinking long-term with their equipment purchases? You had to know this wasn't a great argument.

Actually, I researched that picture before making my post, and it's a fine argument, thanks.

"One might think a fancy, all-electric vehicle would cost way more than a gasoline-powered cruiser, but not so fast. Bertram said the savings in fuel and maintenance more than even out over time.
At $39,500, the Tesla costs about $14,500 more than one of the department's Dodge Chargers, Bertram said. The Tesla doesn't need gas and never needs an oil change, so it costs less to operate.
Bertram crunched the numbers when he convinced town leaders that the Tesla would save money.
And so far, Bertram said, it has."
