(Task and Purpose)   You'd expect an interview with an ex-Secretary of Defense to be characterized as "boring," "reflective," even "wonkish." Not, say, "bonkers" and a "wild ride," or "I feel like I just dropped acid in the E-Ring"   (taskandpurpose.com) divider line

" "You're going to need 10,000 people," Miller recalled Trump telling him the day before he spoke to a crowd at the so-called "Save America Rally," where he urged them to "fight like hell" to overturn an election he decisively lost by marching on Capitol Hill. Miller added: "No, I'm not talking bullshiat. He said that. And we're like, 'Maybe. But you know, someone's going to have to ask for it.'"

"You do what you need to do. You do what you need to do," the president said, according to Miller. "'You're going to need 10,000." "

That "interview" is spackle being laid over Miller's claimed "reputation" in an effort to salvage a post-Trump career. It was painful to read, especially the whole "my wife's gotta step in & save me" bit at the end.

I'm so tired of the media blitz of Republicans desperately trying to rewrite history, typically their own personal histories, in a panicked attempt to scrub off the Trump taint.

"This farking place is rotten. It's rotten," Miller said. "When the system is weighted towards the Joint Staff and the geographic combatant commanders against civilian control, you know, we've got to rethink this."

fark you.  There's a reason for that.  It's because they know what they're farking doing and don't have ulterior motives.  Civilian oversight of the military is not a bad thing.  But the people who's job it is to know the military and their specific AOs should be in farking charge.

The Africom general has no interest in drilling or mining rights so he's not going to do something and send people to their deaths so so private company can get a sweet contract.  But a civilian only has about 8 years and could set themselves up for a pretty sweet gig when they get out by sending military into places for companies benefits.

So no.  People who have never been in the military, combat, or have any idea their abilities should be in control of the military.  I'd trust a career general over a civilian with ulterior motives any day.

I believe it's called "money".  I mean, you can look at O.J. Simpson if you want, but that only proves the point about how much being white also helps.

Funny thing is that characterization is exactly the opposite of that of the Pentagon's relationship to the White House during the Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon administrations, so much condemned by none other than H.R. McMaster.

I trust nothing in that article. Interviewees: Chris Miller and his close aides Kash Patel, and Ezra Cohen-Watnick...

Patel and Cohen-Watnick were Trump loyalists installed to align whichever departments they landed in.

So here's the trio shiatting on Trump and simultaneously shiatting on the defense department, and also admitting to being a part of plans to oust career types.

This smells a lot like a concerted CYA. It's absolutely no surprise they're out on their asses once Joe took office.

Remember how the My Pillow guy tried to deliver an instructive missive to Trump at the very last second before Biden's inauguration to get Kash Patel installed as the new CIA chief? He was the messenger along with Michael Flynn for a military junta which utterly failed thank god. Miller is just butt hurt the insurrection part 2 was shot down before it got off the ground by saner heads. I have no doubt we'll find out years from now that Donnie actually tried to use all the nukes in a last bid emergency gambit to retain power which also thankfully did not happen.

Sitting on his couch at the end of a surreal week, he finally took off the gloves. His target? The Defense Department itself, the largest organization in the world-and one he has served in various ways since he was 18. "This farking place is rotten. It's rotten." Miller's gravest concern, he said, involved a bedrock principle of American democracy: civilian control of the military. "When the system is weighted towards the Joint Staff and the geographic combatant commanders against civilian control, you know, we've got to rethink this." He expressed a belief that by "idolizing and fetishizing" the top brass, members of Congress had ignored an erosion over time in the chain of command.

Came here to say basically this, glad someone's ahead of me. Civilian control of the military is a great thing. Civilian control of the combatant commands is insane. Fark - civilian control of interrogation at Abu Ghraib didn't exactly go swimmingly.

Do we have any evidence our generals aren't on the take too?

Like you're being a bit naive here in ultra capitalist America that it isn't the generals themselves that are more likely to make that type of decision. The uniform is just a uniform.

Jesus farking Christ.

Boy...

Okay, stick with this on me, I'm still forming the idea.

So this week we have this lunacy bomb, where Trump is discussing the size of the crowd necessary to zerg the Capitol to capture Pelosi, McConnell and Pence. Again, let me reiterate Jesus farking Christ.

We also have seen flashes of money flowing from TrumpCo to the hardcore nazis and flash mob inducing personalities in Q. Pulling in the cover numbers and the specialists to do the plan.

These things seem directly related. Trump discussing the crowd size with the people who direct intelligence and Capitol Security? What other calls farking happened? FBI? Parks Service?

This isn't a shiat-storm like the failure of 9-11, this shiat was a planned and directed coup.

Did it fail in the Pentagon? Were there refused orders?

How fragile is our Republic?

Jesus farking Christ.

While I'll wholeheartedly agree that the insight of the commanders in the field trumps some civilian suit in Washington, those commanders need jobs too after their military careers are done.

People thought Flynn, McChrystal and Petraeus were good generals, too.
