I drink NA beer often due to a heart thing. I hope they have a hazy IPA- that's what I miss most

There are some NA beers that taste decent, and if you have to drive, you can switch to after a "real" beer (or alternate, depending on the passage of time).  There are some that taste just fine with a cheeseburger or pizza.  I know some folks would rather have a Coke or somethin', but I'm not big on soda with my food, and ice tea and pizza ain't my thang.

This place is in St. Louis and I hear it's pretty good. I've never tried it because I'll drink water instead of a NA beer if I'm thirsty.

I just wish some American brewery would come out with some decent 2-3% beers. You can drink 3-4 of them and wake up the next day feeling completely fine. Instead, "craft" always means 6%+. Now, they go the opposite direction, and waste their talents on a 0% ABV.

To put it bluntly, civilization exists because of beer (emphasis mine):

Beer without alcohol couldn't have done that, so this represents a step back, not forward, for human civilization, as far as I'm concerned.

I hear you, but lower alcohol beer just tastes different. My go tos are 4.5 to 6.5 percent. Anything under 4 just doesn't feel right.

If you are near St Louis. Civil life does English style ales which tend to be on the lower abv side. They kick out some beers around 2-4% as well as beers in the normal abv range. They brew their Porter at different abvs as well. Their 2% Porter was amazing. That one was only served on their hand pumped cask.  All of their beers are solid and taste great. If you like malty English ales, that is.

I think I was just spoiled living in England. Every single pub has a real ale on the hand cask which maxes out at 4% tops. And they're all full of flavour, moreso than many craft ales in the USA (which seem to mistake "hops" for flavour). Sad that they're so few and far between here in the USA, doubly so that you can almost never find a real ale anywhere.

Alasastar: All of their beers are solid and taste great. If you like malty English ales, that is.


Exactly what I'm after - thanks for the heads up, I'm going to check them out. Sadly I'm too far from STL to do a pickup, but maybe I can locate a local distributor.

There are a number of craft beers in the 4% range, and starting to be more non-alcoholic ones. Some are trying to be IPAs or brown ales with various success levels, some are still at the O'Douls stage, and there are some like Penn's Best which don't even try, but are still a good refreshing hot-weather drink for when you're not in a soda mood (which I almost never am.)

This summer I'll probably try home-brewing some low-alcohol beers. You basically mash the grain at a low enough temperature that the enzymes don't convert much starch to sugar but you still get the barley flavor and enough sugar for a 1% beer, and you then use the leftovers as an adjunct in a more traditional beer.  (But right now it's cold weather, so I've been experimenting with lagers and English style beers.)

I've been brewing my own, and my sweet spot is 6.0. I hit that mark exactly on my last brew, a juicy NEIPA, and it's bloody near perfect to my taste, as well as to my neighbours. Hazy, hoppy and deliciously juicy.

I'm not a beer drinker, but I must admit.... I was baffled why somebody would ever want to drink "Budweiser Zero" unless it is because they are a recovering alcoholic. It really can't be for the taste, right?

In my day, non-alcoholic beer was called "Zing"

Wellbeing tasted awful to me, the DIPA from athletic is good but their standard fair is pretty middling for my palate.
Lagunitas NAIPA was good but I've pretty much resigned that I prefer their hop water over almost anything above mostly because it's a bit cheaper and completely calorie free. I've actually got a few of the athletic hop waters on the way to try as well. Found h2ops on amazon the other week but it was pretty meh.

As for the article I welcome our alcohol free overlords. The last beer I had with alcohol I ended up trading in for a bowl of ice cream. It was objectively a tasty brew but all I felt like I was getting was a "cheap booze" back note and said fark it ice cream is more worthwhile for the calories.

There's a local place here that makes what they call a "table beer", which I believe comes in just under 3%. Sadly, it's not bottled/canned and distributed.

Same here. I drink beer because it's refreshing and I like the taste. I don't like sweet drinks. I'm not trying to get a buzz, and I won't touch a sip of alcohol if I'm expecting to drive or use a power tool later (hobby woodworker)

"Near beer" is the preferred non-water taste. And there are some really good ones now

Wow! Didn't know there was so many St. Louis people here. Civil Life is amazing, they have no phone, cash only and give change with dollar coins and kennedy 50 cent pieces. Wish the pandemic would end so their pub could reopen, has such a cool vibe. Their Brown ale shows up on a lot of best of lists.
