Members are quitting Mar-a-Lago because it has become a 'sad' and 'dispirited' place since Trump moved in, author says

Are they quitting because it's sad, or because there is no benefit to bribing a disgraced former president?

Only it's not misfortune. Fortune either smiles as her wheel turns or not. She is sided with chance.

This is all Trump. His agency, his decisions and actions. Misfortune is being hit by a tree and crushed while you are enjoying a picnic. Trump lit his own dumpster fire and then jumped in.

I was going to say the same thing. I was wondering how many club memberships were going to be canceled and how quickly reservations at Trump's hotel were going to disappear because the need to curry favor with Trump is gone.

Good people weren't staying there, I'm sure.. and the crooks are leaving the loser.

I thought it was settled that the place can't be a permanent residence.

Anyway. 200 grand to buy golf buddies. I guarantee all of them were in a frat.

The MSN article is basically a copy of a Business Insider article that they link to. The B.I. article references a WaPo article.

In the demand letter, obtained by The Washington Post, a lawyer for the Mar-a-Lago neighbors says the town should notify Trump that he cannot use Mar-a-Lago as his residence. Making that notification would "avoid an embarrassing situation" if the outgoing president moves to the club and later has to be ordered to leave, according to the letter sent on behalf of the neighbors, the DeMoss family, which runs an international missionary foundation.

I looked up the DeMoss family. They support a number of conservative evangelical causes, but have also joined in with those critical of Falwell's support of Trump.

Each year, the club is required to report [to Palm Beach] whether at least 50 percent of Mar-a-Lago's members live or work in Palm Beach; that the club has fewer than 500 members; and that no one is using the guest suites more than 21 days a year. However, the town says it has no records of the reports for four of the past 20 years.

The Mar-a-Lago neighbors would be okay with Trump's finding a new place to bunk. Their letter, written by West Palm Beach attorney Reginald Stambaugh, includes a zinger that harks to the vibe of the old-money enclave on Florida's east coast: "Palm Beach has many lovely estates for sale, and we are confident President Trump will find one which meets his needs."

Knowing he probably doesn't have the financial resources to buy a taco truck, much less an estate.

Remember in West Wing when ambassador Karen demanded to speak to Charlie's manager because he thought the uppity young man told the president about his membership to a whites only golf club? This is like that. Except, don't be like Charlie. Aholes who belonged to club 'throw children in cages' deserve to be exposed and scorned. Charlie actually protected the ahole's privacy out of some misplaced sense of decorum.

It is the BI article. Same writer and everything. It even has the branding. It's likely a deal with MSN for exposure.

Charlie's retort to the fired Ambassador was brilliant. "Well, I'm personal aide to the President, so my supervisor is a little busy right now looking for a back door to this place to shove you out of, but I'll let him know you'd like to file a complaint."

It costs more than that because there are apparently also some "minimum requirements" like you have to spend so much in the restaurant and on the golf course every year, I don't know what the specifics are.

Came for this.

It's almost as though the primary perk that justified doubling the joining fee in 2017 is no longer part of the membership package.

The Borat third movies practically writes itself.

Oligarchs join to fill the unwanted spaces, paying five time the going rate -- a million dollars!

Imagine, if you will, all the hairy, fat oligarchs, sunning by the pool, wearing bright Borat-yellow swim attire.

What a coincidence. He's been there 3 whole days and suddenly people are leaving because they are sad. In 3 days. At a place they probably only go to once a week, at most. I'm just thinking out loud here, but maybe they're leaving because he's no longer is a position to sell his influence or use his former position to sell favors.
I am going to enjoy watching it all fall apart. 6 months until One Night in Ivanka premiers on pornhub. Girl's gotta eat.

Didn't Trump sign something to the effect that he couldn't use it as his permanent residence, thereby making his mail-in vote fraudulent?

I bet it's pretty easy to get a reservation at Trump International Hotel in DC this weekend, now that the Saudis and Russians have no need to continue renting floors full of vacant rooms for weeks at a time.

I mean, they only have a problem with Trump -being there- not that they pay him $200,000/y to play golf
at that shiat hole regardless.

They have no problem buying that influence, they just don't want to be reminded of it by having to stare it in its sad orange face every morning at the brunch bar.

And the ambassador, who was being fired for cheating on his wife (Bartlett's actual friend) with the daughter of the President of Bulgaria (or something, I don't remember exactly who and I'm can't be asked), is punished by having his affair kept a secret and being hired for a job with a 6-7 figure salary.
