As somebody who was gym-attending before COVID, I feel like the truly dedicated meathead crowd is a lot more susceptible to the "covid's a hoax" type rhetoric because they really, really want to believe they are in complete control of their health, lives, destiny, etc.

If nothing else, they're susceptible to it because
a) A teenage or 20-something meathead probably will get away with few to no symptoms
b) The gym being closed is the worst thing in the world to them

I know more than a few optometrists last spring who were strongly questioning whether COVID was really a big deal and it was pretty clear that the self interest of keeping their optical open and selling stuff that was the motivating factor convincing them it couldn't possibly.
Or as Winston Zedmore said "if there's a steady paycheck in it I'll believe anything."

I don't disagree about the punishment. But that is not the face of a man who has ever "known better" about anything in his whole life.. If he owns a gym, it's because he got fired from every job he ever had, so his parents tried to set him up in business.

Any bets if he had a PBA courtesy card or badge on him when he was beating and trying to kill a police officer trying to do their job?

Cop kids are always the worst. They would have that Police Athletic Club sticker on their license plate to let other pigs know not to pull them over. They're always moving drugs in their cars.

Let's be honest at this point the police unions need to be dissolved in the United States.   They've created this group

This isn't a new phenomenon either. Back in the 20s and 30s, a lot of the blackshirts and brownshirt types were those hypermasculine gym rats.

Also, it seems like every white athlete that's vocal about their politics is a Trumper, especially MMA fighters. I know they can't all be cause of those taking a knee demonstrations, but I don't hear them speak up about it if they are liberal.

I've heard physiologists say that those people who exercise way too much start developing a surplus of testosterone, and start to behave like teenagers; their mental processes resemble a 13-year-old boy's, which explains a lot right there.

All that "anger against the system" leads nowhere. We should try unity. And to do as we're told by people that know better.

Biden's ultimate "unity" move: pardoning the least of the rioters. Telling them they were lied to by a bad man, and they deserve to be forgiven and welcomed back to an America that wants to heal.

Jaws_Victim - Biden's ultimate "unity" move: pardoning the least of the rioters. Telling them they were lied to by a bad man, and they deserve to be forgiven and welcomed back to an America that wants to heal.

Which is a huge mistake. You can throw 'law and order' out of the window if the response to what happened is to pardon any of them, and it will be all but impossible to deny that there is a two-tiered justice system in this country.

/I am with you... this is not kosher

As much as I agree with this, it's not going to happen.  The largest ring leaders, like the people that actually broke or stole or entered offices or assaulted people, they will do time.
Most of the others will probably get nothing more than a fine.

And even so, there is going to be a lot of "we were told to" defense, or the "I was just following a mob" defense.
For those that can afford lawyers that will be the way out.  But, whatever money they spend on a lawyer will be worse than the fine.

Maybe.  But as a "fitness nut" that has tried going to the gym "post"-COVID, I can tell you it's a pretty mixed bag.  I see dedicated treadmill runners keep their masks on, while flabby housewives barely moving their legs take their masks off.  I've seen serious lifters keep their masks on through Olympic exercises, and wipe down everything before and after, and I've seen half-ass dumbasses wearing the chin diaper so their labored breathing doesn't interfere with their phat 15lb bicep curls.  The young, healthy members of the staff all keep their masks on, while the walking co-morbidity septuagenarian doesn't even wear a mask during his shift (even after another staff member tested COVID positive).

Overall, I'd agree that most people in the gym are self-centered, myself included.  But this clown represents us no more than any other ignorant asshole.

I need to be much more fitness-oriented than I've been, but, man, I would not set foot in one these days. even before This Our Plague-Era, when I'd go abuse the guest-pass of my brother's YMCA (and it was a pretty decent one!) - my main goal was minimum 1/4 mile of oxygen-free laps in their 50-meter pool. as a teenager, that would have been pure kid-play, but as a 40+yo. lol, yeah, I was proud of managing it.

but (Narrator: there's always a but!)

jfc/ffs, nice as it was, it's still "The Y" and you gots your tragedy-of-the-commons. people wearing filthy street-shoes on the deck, kids with leaky diapers running around every of the wheres, old people with leaky diapers standing still in the actual lanes... so actually huh, that sounds like a pretty normal YMCA lol.

They are not "them." They are the neighbor you defend as harmless because he trims his lawn, the coworker who you indulge with his "kind of out there" opinions because he likes the same sports team you do, and the uncle you invite on holidays.

If you regard them as normal, so will the country. This is on you.
