optikeye: I think I'll do red lobster at home for Valentines day. Steak, Lobster, Biscuits and a side salad.

aimtastic
garlic "butter" they use is hard to recreate as it's a seasoning packet mixed with a vegetable oil product called "buttery sauce."

I wonder if this popcorn oil might be the key there. It's a very buttery flavored oil...that with a bit of sazon seasoning and some real butter might work.
I think I might try it to saute shrimp this weekend.

the "butter seasoning" in dollar tree's spice shelf is... pretty flipping amazeballs, actually! first ingredient? buttermilk powder. then, yes, yes, salt. then like, grinded-up-trees. then whey. and a coupla preservatives. creepy and surreal how good that stuff is...

Arthur Treacher's >> LJS >> Red Lobster. fight me.

altho' ... RL is the only one we gots in NE Phila, sad to say.

our usual lazy go-to is some hole-in the wall convenience down the block from my parents-in-law, "Captain's Choice" lololol. they sell beer, wine, lottery tickets, some very strange unusual candies (pastel lego blocks??!? tastes just like candy-necklace flavor-sugar-junk, except in POG lego form.) - and, yes, fried foods. sort of like your standart UK chippy, almost.

they fry everything to-order/on-demand, and tbh their front counter refrigerator case looks like, it... really does not look like they're simply using typical cheap frozen-food-service (y'know, sysco, sodexho, etc.) type stuff. so if someone is prepping this stuff fresh by hand, I'm really curious to know from whence it comes.

hrm, no past photos of the food, but here's the storefront. yeah, it's exactly how it looks like you think it does.

wow, I could eat the absolute pants off some skrimps!!! 4.75, where do I sign?!
(altho' ...much as I'm usually not a picky eater, there's just something about grass-shrimp (Gulf/Maine/etc.) that is oddly somehow off-putting to me?)

also, oblig.

silvervial: I have two RL stories.

1. We went to Disneyland years ago, taking the 7-year-old for her first time. We didn't know any restaurants in the area, so when we saw a RL (which we had never been to before but knew from commercials), we went there. Waitress asked the kid what side she wanted and she chose broccoli. We had to have a "discussion" with the woman because she refused to believe our child wanted broccoli. We didn't want to go into the whole reason why (kid can't stomach fat so french fries were out - we didn't know yet it was because she has Cystic Fibrosis, two more years to diagnosis) and that's when said child piped up, "I'm a weird kid. I like broccoli, it's yummy." We all laughed and waitress finally agreed.

2. Child is now grown and married and her husband has a serious crab addiction. RL decided one year to try to commit suicide and offered "All you can eat CRAB LEGS". So her and SIL drag us to RL in like, Cupertino or some weird place, and WE EAT 50 SERVINGS OF CRAB LEGS JUST THE FOUR OF US!!! IT WAS THE GREATEST NIGHT EVER!!! We had to be rolled out of the place and we weren't the only ones. The woman who approved the "promotion" was fired. Only shrimp are all you can eat now.

i've found that when eating at home, about 3 pounds of opilio (snow) crab is perfect to split for 2 people. however, i have eaten that much just myself on an occasion or two! i LOVE your story though, all-you-can-eat crab legs delivered to the table on-demand sounds divine 😊

-still have never in my life been to a RL-

Grew up in Delaware, where we had actual local seafood as well as hauled-in stuff, and Red Lobster always seemed like a half-baked imitation of the real thing. However, their biscuits? Those are really good, and since I'm a vegetarian these last few decades, they're mainly what I eat if I'm there with family, along with some kind of salad and maybe pasta if they can do that.

For a few years we had a Louisiana-style fried fish joint a few miles from here.  You pick which kinds of fish you want from usually 5-6 choices, you pick fried, broiled, baked, etc., you pick traditional Southern side dishes. The okra alone was worth the trip even for friends of mine who also ate fish.

Red Lobster doesn't believe in delayed gratification. Red Lobster is a considerate lover.

oh, lawd. so... ok, I spent 6 months commuting to a JNJ black-tar heroin lab IN WILMINGTON- to re-validate all of their bizarre paperwork processes into software.

my go-to there, was always 100% The Charcoal Pit.

but. this one time? my manager came down and treated me to AYCE bay blue-crab.

holee-fark, batman.

we sat there drankin' over an entire picnic-table plastered with butcher-paper, for just 2 people - for the entire night, just inhaling crabs.

yeah, even 1lb snow/king legs is... insufficient for 1 human being. which brings to mind, lol, ... so, pre-plague-era, one of our usual locales had AYCE king-crab for 34.99/pro-person. which is/was about the lowest price you can find anywhere in Philadelphia for all you can eat. much-regret, because we kept putting it off... day after day, for literally 3 years, and still never tried it on.

there was some redonkulous deal last summer, where we got literally $25-off each and every order of red-lobstah, and so I (ab)used that multiple times, to get king crab legs for $mai_waifu, but jeez were those things... not very good. anemic.
