Yeah they were certainly the weakest villain.

But, episodes that feature Claudia Black and Morena Baccarin? How bad could it ever be

They should have rebooted the Goa'uld as the bad guys. Of the four baddies they were far the most interesting. And the assumption that there were no more of them running around after the demise of the System Lords is totally unwarranted.

Claudia's voice hits a strange register in my hearing, and starts to irritate me.  She seems like a descent actress, but I just can't deal with listening to her for long stretches.  It's why I've never been able to watch Farscape all the way through.

They did keep Baal around, but the clone thing was annoying. Clones are always annoying because you can capture one every week and still have the baddie out there.

That has to be a rich motherfarker. Residuals from MacGyver and being the executive producer of go'ould knows how many Stargate shows there were.  Probably gets a taste from the remake show too (which actually isn't bad).

Indeed.

I'd like to see a reboot, with the old cast, and a totally new Goa'uld BigBad.

Years ago, I wrote the start of a story about it, then got distracted by Life and filed it away, unfinished.

What I have is an "origin" prologue and a skeleton outline. The prologue explains the sudden appearance of a new Goa'uld running around on Earth. Thing is... she's sort of an anti-heroine. That is to say, her heart (do Goa'uld even have hearts?) is in the right place. She wants to conquer Earth in order to defend it against Ra (well, and being a Goa'uld, just to conquer something).

Back in the day, she attempted a coup against Ra. But she got caught, got tortured, and got stuck in a stasis jar. Said jar was then stolen by friendly human fifth columnist slaves. and hidden away where Ra couldn't find it. So, since she's been stuck in the stasis jar for 6,000 years, she thinks Ra is still around somewhere. She has help from a somewhat crazy host woman who is perfectly happy with the arrangement (and also wants to conquer Earth).

Problem is, what is canon since the end of SG Atlantis and a big-ass starship splashing down in the Pacific off of San Francisco? The implicit plot of the book requires that the Stargate and all related stuff is still secret. That might be a bit of a stretch after 20 years. I can't find a damn think online about subsequent canon.

Time loop episode after they FINALLY realized they could fark around and destress

Granted it took them god knows how many loops to realize that, but with how well they understood the translating they were doing it took a LONG time (S4E6)

From an actual episode, where they were stuck in a time loop, and O'Neill found out, and decided to take advantage of one of the loops to use the Gate as a driving range.

I'm enjoying it, though I have to force myself not to think about how everyone in the universe somehow speaks English, except when they don't, and how an advanced scientific and military program doesn't quarantine people returning from alien planets, even after episodes when they bring back contagions.

Another, less dissonant one is how every planet only seems to be inhabited by only a couple dozen people even after thousands of years of inhabitation.

Once I can push those facts out of my consciousness, the show is a riotous good time. I'm enjoying Stargate: Atlantis in parallel as well.

Yes. You have suspend some logic.
Like no one in Stargate command ever figures out the potential of the Stargate. They are searching the galaxy for tech to fight the G'oauld but occasionally someone points out that it would be nice to find ways to fix Earth's problems. The things is that the gate itself already solves 90 percent of Earth's problems because we can solve over population. Sure, they don't want to freak everyone out by telling them about aliens. But humans are already freaked out day from day by global warming, famine, war and such to which there was a readily available solution.

Even in episodes where the Stargate is public, like with the Aschen, where even the G'oauld had been defeated, no one considers large scale Earthling homesteading of other planets. The government actually agrees with the Aschen to sterilize 30 percent of the population to control growth (which they sneakily turned into 90+). But even agreeing to the 30 percent was nonsense since there were other planets available.

PS. I was disappoint that Stargate Atlantis got cancelled w/o some more episodes with the Evil-ish Asgard cousins. They seemed like cool villains.

A friend of my dad's worked as a carpenter on MacGyver.  One day during a break in filming, Uncle Ray headed up a back staircase at the Bridge Studios and found RDA in a liplock with the starlet of the week.  Being obnoxiously Australian, Ray said "I thought they yelled cut."

Rick gave him a serious death glare.

I don't think the problem was the villian.

RDA is unique in that he only plays characters within a strict moral code. He brings that to a show. And it's believable, the passion and resolve.

This is nearly impossible for some *new guy* to step into. Like I said, it's unique. I love Ben Browder, the new MacGyver kid seems nice,

But there are certain things where only the original article will do,
Richard Dean Anderson is one of those things.

Mu roommate has never seen Stargate so we hopped on it when it came back to Netflix, about two episodes in we had to have the "Don't think about it too much, just roll with it. It's worth it." conversation.

Recently watched the one where they transferred people to a planet that it turns out was getting terraformed out of human norms. They were giving the transferred people a naquadah generator . . . this is like season four when naquadah was still hard to come by. IIRC they never released the naquadah reactor tech for use on Earth. They could have solved Earth's power problems with a dozen or so of those, or fewer large ones, but never did it.

They didn't even have to reveal naquadah tech to get us clean energy. The US could have just built a bunch of regular nuclear reactors and dumped the waste in some other planet. I joked on some other SG-1 thread a while back, that the Stargate program could have self financed by getting into the toxic waste management business. Either find a planet, with little potential for future settlement, and leave it there or use the gates backwash to safely disintegrate hazardous materials.
