Microsoft, the infofeudalists with an artificial nobility created by foolishly long copyright terms, supports the terrorist insurrectionist Republicans who want to over the government that grants them their copyrights.

Destroy Microsoft, nothing of value will be lost.

While I personally don't like Microsoft, I'm not sure the article made the connection between Microsoft's political donations and the seditious members of Congress.

Maybe that will come in a later article.

The article specifically said that Microsoft intends to continue giving money to the treasonweasels.

It's in the editor's note above the actual article. Maybe it was added later for clarification.

Honestly his statements are inflammatory enough that I think they will issue a statement first thing Monday and withdraw political donations to these unsavory knaves. And their stock price will probably hit a lick too so I oughtta put a share in the ol' portfolio Tuesday after paper hands give me a good deal.

Thanks for the heads-up, subby. 👍🏼

Good for them.  fark Microsoft for financing Sedition.

What I remember about Microsoft and politics is the overlap of their trial for bundling a web browser into the OS and other monopolistic practices, and the 2000 Presidential race. At one point Bush gave a speech basically parroting the Microsoft talking point on the matter (which boiled down to MS accusing their critics of hating innovation), followed by Gates and Microsoft celebrating when Bush won the election. By then Microsoft had already been found guilty, but the new DoJ intervened and cut their penalties to nearly nothing.

And that's when I learned that Microsoft was employing lobbyists.to bribe the President to get their way. A practice which they and other big corporations enjoy to this day.

LOL. Nothing will happen. Whine about MS all you want but they are damn near immune to this sort of attack. They could be donating to the Puppy and Kitten Killing party and I'd be all "Well, there's no replacement for Excel and Outlook so I'll just look the other way."

Should have went with the "Biden down the hatches".

While not germane, would have been (perhaps) slightly more amusing.

Looking through the thread Steve quoted, Smith looks like he's specifically angling his donations for tax purposes, and didn't intend for the meeting to have been leaked. Ooooops. If Steve does his homework and twists those screws Microsoft will be forced to give them up and ask for a refund.

Save a few percent off next year's taxes, maybe? Or lose several more off the stock price 8:30 Monday morning sharp PLUS the headwind from recent earnings reports? Hmmmm........ HMMMMMMMMMM........ 🤔

/Who knows, one day I might respect Schmidt

Excellent point. T dgaf about their infrastructure, but care about losing investors? Lol, Microsoft is gonna break like a square of toilet paper in a hurricane and come out on top for it. Not often can one say that!

The last thing Microsoft invented that was worth a crap was Office.

I still use Office and Outlook at work and Windows on this home machine for gaming purposes.

But honestly, their products are pretty awful. Constant updates, buggy, bleah.

I hope this does work.  Microsoft, nor any company should support those asshats directly or indirectly.

When I was there, there was a pac employees could donate to.   I suspect this is where the money is coming from.  I don't recall how the pac operated or anything, but I do know it didn't necessarily act with the same overall political interests of the contributors.

I don't think they realize how much money M$ has and how ruthless their lawyers are. This isn't going to be like taking on some startup with an inflated stock price. They have real money and the will to use it to destroy anything in their way.

Bill Gates is out of the picture, Jobs had him running scared when he came back but now he's dead and Bill is doing charity stuff with his hot wife instead of monopolizing. Facebook is the enemy. It fed your friends and family to Qanon. Never forget or forgive.

Office is a massive dumpster fire. Outlook moreso, especially when dealing with people who think they can manage their business AND manage the IT back end. 🙄

But if there's one thing Microsoft is damned good at is shining turds. And people trip over themselves to buy it. These days MS is giving the Linux ecosystem serious consideration, so their long term prospective is worth investing in, in my opinion. Once they figure out how to replicate UNIX's secret sauce with their own code base, beyond their actually impressive work with WSL, they'll be a force to be reckoned with.

And I say that as someone who's been using Linux for over half my life, hates Windows in general, and has owned a Mac running OSX as a daily driver for years. I will never even entertain the idea of owning an Xbox either! But like I said, they make a product people want to buy and I can get behind that, especially when short sellers need to take a hit to the balls for spreading FUD.

The OG Xbox was the first console to have a hard drive.

Xboxen also led the way in consoles using easy-to-program PC technology and not esoteric shiat like the Cell Processor.

That's about it.

Cinnamon is pretty good, Mint is good.  Fedora is good.  I personally use Zorin and paid the $40 for the full version.  I also run and support a Windows environment both at home and at work.  Both have their uses.  If I wasn't playing games so much or even had a better experience with WoW on Linux <and I'm going to try it again...>  I might consider swapping completely at least at the house.

At work, though, I'm looking forward to O365 being deployed, and frankly, one place and standard for most all we need at work is pretty nice.  I will only have to support 1 version of Office, Teams will be there, etc.

Linux still has some catching up to do, but it has the foundations.  A good OS, companies are supporting it, Databases, even good music players.  If it ever gets all put together, it could replace Microsoft... and Microsoft knows this and is embracing Linux now too.

/Linux can replace a desktop environment at home already
//More and more people are using Linux and realizing its value - Even POWERSHELL now runs on it
///It is time to take a good long look at it if you haven't already, and learn powershell and basic commands if you care about PCs

Normally I'd agree with you, but Win10 actually is very buggy. It also sends a lot of info to the mothership, and while you can turn off most of that, most people don't have the time/energy/skills to fark around in group policy and the registry. (Fortunately there are a lot of free programs out there to help with this). I mean yeah, that's PEBKAC, but customers shouldn't have to work that hard.

Office likes to help itself to all your info too, and if you try to give yourself some privacy it'll turn off features such as help and dictation.

For people who don't want to fark around with Linux, Apple is a good choice, though many video games won't run on it. There are windows emulators out there if you don't mind the learning curve.

LibreOffice is a good sub for Office. Open source so it's free and doesn't steal your data, and it does everything you need - word documents and spreadsheets, and saves ina format that Office users can read. There's an open source version of Project (just do a search for "open source version of project). There are open source email clients out there too.

All of the open source Office competitors SUCK in any real comparison to MS Office. It's not even close. It's a waste of time to even begin to compare them. You can find absolute dealbreakers within seconds. If I'm going to estimate and manage a hundred million dollars in projects I'll use the best tool for the job, not the equivalent of the farking IKEA brand cordless drill. Hell, I'd pay to use Excel just to help my mother manage her quilting group membership.
