Might at least help as long as everyone who wants a shot can get it.  Right now, no. Get the money in circulation now.

This would be the vaccine that we currently don't have enough of, and what we do have seems to be reserved primarily for the rich, white and politically connected?

Eat a brick, asshole.

It's a good idea, provided there's actually enough vaccine available.

If vaccine access is a byzantine Malthusian nightmare of risk categories and social strata, you're incentivizing people to jump the line.

I'm onboard if you can fix the supply chain.

No.  The American people should get the $2000 that members of both parties were vocally in favor of, and then if you want to reward Americans for (read:  bribe Americans to) get the vaccine, then you can do that, too.  You're not taking money away from Americans again.

Oh, now I get it. He proposed it because there's no more vaccine available.

I knew I expected empty Republican promise and lies for a reason.

No, it's not a good idea. With cancer, I can't vaccines right now, so why should I be punished?

So the Republican plan is...

Step 1: Prevent non-white people from getting the vaccine.
Step 2: Give $1400 to people who get the vaccine.

Ah, so I don't get the check because I'm lower on the risk scale.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with higher risk people getting the vaccine first. But tying aid to getting a vaccine is stupid.

Yknow, paying people to get vaccinated is actually a really good idea... im sure a lot of anti-vaxxers would change their tune for $1400.

which is actually kinda sad in a way but hey, its for the greater good!

I'm not opposed to tying an incentive to Covid vaccination, but the stimulus checks should not be that incentive. It will take months for some people to get to the front of the vaccine line, just due to sheer logistics and production capacity.

Fark that. Fourth stimulus will go to those who receive the vaccine. It's gonna take months to get to everyone given how badly Trump ignored logistics.

alitaki: They need to get off this "stimulus" rhetoric. A stimulus is a one time jolt. That would be fine to do if after everyone was vaccinated and could go back to normal we needed to inject money into the economy.

Until then we need recurring relief. Weekly checks to cover living expenses for everyone who has lost their jobs or suffered a decrease in income. People who didn't suffer economic loss shouldn't be eligible. That would be the correct way of doing things but we have Republicans so we cant have proper things.

Would you include people who lost their jobs before COVID and tried to find work only for COVID to hit and flood the job market with tens of millions of new competitors?  LinkedIn listings were like, "10 applicants for this position" in December/January 2019, then after that, it's more like "279 applicants for this position".  Got one interview since then (and a 'regret to inform' e-mail after), and department of labor won't recognize me as being impacted by COVID because I lost work before the official start date.

Any legislation that does this would need a loophole for legitimate medical exceptions, but there is enough of a compelling public interest in having more people vaccinated that I don't have a problem with strongly incentivizing it.

But, as I said, it's a moot point right now because vaccines are scarce and it's not a good idea until they're not scarce.

My concern is that immediately after this passes there will be a massive PR push from the right wing extremist to point out "if the government feels like it has to pay you to take a vaccine, then what is wrong with it?" Then it'll become mass stupidity as the microchip trackers in your vaccine people will riot in the streets and raid/destroy vaccine stockpile.

These people are fired up, angry, betrayed and craving the next mass conspiracy they can use to justify their idiotic positions over the last decade.

Agreed - even if we can get to 1M injections per day - it's still 350 days before we get everyone their first dose.  Stay patient, stay diligent, wear a mask, and for the love of doggos, don't breathe on me!
