The old GOP version of "But first, I would like you to do me a favor".

In before.
"I never recieved my first one, but I'm too lazy to go the website or pickup a phone to find out why...WHHHHAAAA"

Yes.  Exactly.  What's the price tag, asshole?

Might at least help as long as everyone who wants a shot can get it.  Right now, no. Get the money in circulation now.

It's a good idea, provided there's actually enough vaccine available.

If vaccine access is a byzantine Malthusian nightmare of risk categories and social strata, you're incentivizing people to jump the line.

I'm onboard if you can fix the supply chain.

2021-01-22 12:27:09 PM
This would be the vaccine that we currently don't have enough of, and what we do have seems to be reserved primarily for the rich, white and politically connected?

Eat a brick, asshole.

GOP congressman is targeting checks to Ron DeSantis' donors.

You have to wait for your money until you can get the vaccine...so enjoy your check in August!

It is OK to eat babies as long as the slut gives birth to them first.

No, it's not a good idea. With cancer, I can't vaccines right now, so why should I be punished?

Oh, now I get it. He proposed it because there's no more vaccine available.

I knew I expected empty Republican promise and lies for a reason.

It's just to make sure everybody gets injected with the tracking chip.

2021-01-22 1:15:06 PM
No.  The American people should get the $2000 that members of both parties were vocally in favor of, and then if you want to reward Americans for (read:  bribe Americans to) get the vaccine, then you can do that, too.  You're not taking money away from Americans again.

The vaccine will cost $1500.

This is a great idea. So it won't happen.

2021-01-22 1:16:32 PM
Yknow, paying people to get vaccinated is actually a really good idea... im sure a lot of anti-vaxxers would change their tune for $1400.

which is actually kinda sad in a way but hey, its for the greater good!

2021-01-22 1:16:35 PM
Probably much more effective than my "vaccine made my dong bigger" campaign.

It's assumed because all vaccines use aborted baby jesus fetal material dontchaknow?

Not enough vaccine to get shots .. Kaiser is at the don't contact us, we'll contact you when it's available stage of their program ..

So the Republican plan is...

Step 1: Prevent non-white people from getting the vaccine.
Step 2: Give $1400 to people who get the vaccine.

Any legislation that does this would need a loophole for legitimate medical exceptions, but there is enough of a compelling public interest in having more people vaccinated that I don't have a problem with strongly incentivizing it.

But, as I said, it's a moot point right now because vaccines are scarce and it's not a good idea until they're not scarce.

I'm not opposed to tying an incentive to Covid vaccination, but the stimulus checks should not be that incentive. It will take months for some people to get to the front of the vaccine line, just due to sheer logistics and production capacity.

If it is in addition to, rather than instead of the current proposal, it is not an entirely bad idea.

2021-01-22 1:23:10 PM
Ah, so I don't get the check because I'm lower on the risk scale.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with higher risk people getting the vaccine first. But tying aid to getting a vaccine is stupid.

2021-01-22 1:24:27 PM
The direct payments were not very contentious in the repub caucus.  The other stuff the dems wanted was what killed support.

Agreed - even if we can get to 1M injections per day - it's still 350 days before we get everyone their first dose.  Stay patient, stay diligent, wear a mask, and for the love of doggos, don't breathe on me!

2021-01-22 1:24:34 PM
I'm sorry but the way these people come up with our grab onto a number pulled out of someone else's butt is ridiculous.

$600, no $2000, wait we sent the $600 so let's subtract that from 2000 and 1400 is the new magic number forevermore.

Oh, and the Republicans accused the democrats of wanting to send the checks to their rich friends which, being rich, don't qualify for the aid!

These people are an embarrassment.

2021-01-22 1:24:57 PM
This dovetails nicely with the Florida policy that rich people get the vaccine first because they're better people.

Oh, and here's a question: will we give money to all of the prisoners who get the vaccine before working people?

2021-01-22 1:26:53 PM
I would gladly accept 1400 dollars today for a vaccine on Tuesday.

2021-01-22 1:31:36 PM
Why would eating a baby cost 1400 dollars?

You can get them for free if you're willing to put a little effort into it.

2021-01-22 1:32:36 PM
When we have enough vaccine, make it contingent on getting the second shot.

2021-01-22 1:34:43 PM
Typical Evil

All the GOP voters who are in the $100K+ income range have no incentive to get vaccinated.

All Dem voters who are poor would qualify for the check, but would be locked out of the vaccine for reasons, therefore wouldn't get paid.

From the GOP standpoint, WIN-WIN

They need to get off this "stimulus" rhetoric. A stimulus is a one time jolt. That would be fine to do if after everyone was vaccinated and could go back to normal we needed to inject money into the economy.

Until then we need recurring relief. Weekly checks to cover living expenses for everyone who has lost their jobs or suffered a decrease in income. People who didn't suffer economic loss shouldn't be eligible. That would be the correct way of doing things but we have Republicans so we cant have proper things.

Imagine taking a republican idea at its word and not see that it's just a way to avoid helping people because of a variety of reasons that a person cant do anything about.

Would you include people who lost their jobs before COVID and tried to find work only for COVID to hit and flood the job market with tens of millions of new competitors?  LinkedIn listings were like, "10 applicants for this position" in December/January 2019, then after that, it's more like "279 applicants for this position".  Got one interview since then (and a 'regret to inform' e-mail after), and department of labor won't recognize me as being impacted by COVID because I lost work before the official start date.

I've already gotten one shot. Can I get my $700 now? Need some hookers 'n blow this weekend.

But yeah, dumb idea. Especially when places like TexASS are not allowing cities to prioritize who gets it.
