After a few weeks of these, they're going to have to reassign whoever they tasked to do these the last few years which felt like decades.

That's barely a fact.

2021-01-22 12:22:36 PM
They aren't actually wrong. I actually respect the fact they aren't going full Biden dick sucking. The man said he would make mistakes. Just because he's not Trump doesn't make him any less open to criticism

styckx: They aren't actually wrong. I actually respect the fact they aren't going full Biden dick sucking. The man said he would make mistakes. Just because he's not Trump doesn't make him any less open to criticism

And herein lies a major difference between Democrats and Republicans.  Republicans  scream FAKE NEWS!  UNFAIR!  WITCH HUNT! when their guy is criticized, even over obviously illegal, unethical or downright crazy shiat.  Democrats say, "Yeah, you have a point" or "Nah, I don't buy it" depending on the evidence.

Sure, now that we have Trump gone let's do all the things it only took 5 years to do concerning his sh*tshow of an admin because it was good for ratings immediately to President Biden day 1 to be "equal and fair and such as".

/F*ck those guys and their complacency with their ratings whore Donald**

Compared to the whoppers that have been told just within the last year, this mild exaggeration isn't exactly what I'd call mind-blowing.

30,572 to go for the tie.

They shouldn't let any falsehoods go without correction, on principle alone.

The fact that it took them years to summon the courage to admit that Trump lied like a farking dog should not change anything, other than to shame them for not having done their jobs in the past.

2021-01-22 1:19:39 PM
I am completely fine with holding Biden accountable for his words and actions.

2021-01-22 1:26:42 PM
Does this mean trump is emperor for life?

2021-01-22 1:28:04 PM
They're going to need to downsize that department. Think they're going to have some additional labor they can shift to other departments.

For one year?

Its funny though that they are checking him on his assertion that they weren't sucking his dick by saying "you're wrong we were sucking your dick"

2021-01-22 1:29:35 PM
...well, that's that. I'm voting for the orange fellow after all.

2021-01-22 1:29:36 PM
OH NO!.

Oh wait..I'm 100% ok with this and hope they demand 100% honesty from our elected officials from here on out.

austerity101: "BOTH sides, amirite?  See?  We're fair!  Please don't hate us, racists.  We need your money."

I want them to continue this fact checking on every elected official from here on out.

2021-01-22 1:30:55 PM
Admitting a mistake and improving does not make you weak.

Claiming you never make any mistake or you are perfect in every way is what either makes you weak or makes you me.

2021-01-22 1:31:07 PM
Their main issue seems to be that he said "you all said" when it wasn't really "you all" who said it. It's a little nitpicky, not like he said "and Mexico is going to pay for it" or anything, but whatever.

2021-01-22 1:31:45 PM
The thing is, we Biden supporters are okay with fact-checking like this. That statement was off-the-cuff in response to an unscripted question, and came out rather Trumpy. And that deserves to be challenged.

Can we still use the term "nothingburger?"

2021-01-22 1:31:50 PM
I want Biden held accountable for lies and false statements. But this feels nit-picky. But whatever.

2021-01-22 1:32:20 PM
Good. Fact check him. Just because he possesses the antithesis of most every awful Trumpian attribute  doesn't mean he gets a free pass. In most circumstances, if called out, I am fairly sure he'll own his error. That alone is a sea change.

2021-01-22 1:32:42 PM
Very Trumpian of hoim

2021-01-22 1:34:24 PM
I'd rather have my representative be fact checked than be permitted to be incorrect tomorrow.

Trump was harmed by a lack of fact checking. Trump harmed himself by aggressively resisting fact-checking.

As long as a fact is a fact and not a pro-Putin insurrectionist fairytale, it's fine.

But the article is more nitpicking than fact checking.

2021-01-22 1:34:48 PM
Add me to the "good, the President should be fact checked regardless or whether I supported him" list.

2021-01-22 1:35:45 PM

Pin Fiften Clob: I want Biden held accountable for lies and false statements. But this feels nit-picky. But whatever.

That's the norm. Only call out Republicans for outright fabrications (and don't actually hold them accountable for them, just point them out) and nitpick Dems so you don't look "biased".

/ Still fine to point out when something is wrong.
// I've seen a few fact-check cases where they had to deliberately misunderstand the plain meaning of something a Dem said, in order to rate it worse, though.
/// For my part, I hate it when "my" side lies or makes a shiatty argument, so please, do make them stop.

Epicedion: Their main issue seems to be that he said "you all said" when it wasn't really "you all" who said it. It's a little nitpicky, not like he said "and Mexico is going to pay for it" or anything, but whatever.

It was a Trumpy sort of "poor me" attack-fib, and Biden is better than that. The sooner we can purge that shiat from our national discourse, the better.

2021-01-22 1:36:34 PM
Good. Though trying to figure out if Biden meant 'you all' as a specific station or 'you all' as in all media then saying if the latter it was actually only 75% seems like a stretch to find something.

2021-01-22 1:37:04 PM
Well the CNN fact checkers might be out of job with homest Joe so this tiny gripe may be all they have over the next four years.

Me: "Why don't you kids ever eat your veggies, damn it?"
Eldest Daughter: "I ate all of my carrots yesterday."

I think the lies need to come with some index of the severity of the lie.

This one 3/10 for example. Hardly a biggie but good that it is mentioned.

We need to understand that BSRB but one side's badness is exponentially worse than the other's.

Was it you all or you-all? Does seem kinda nit-picky, in the sense that maybe they think they need to find daily lies out of habit. Real fact-checking is important, of course.

2021-01-22 1:42:45 PM
And later this week . . .

Biden: Like everyone says, dogs make great pets.

CNN: Millions of Americans prefer cats.  We rate this claim as FALSE.

2021-01-22 1:43:24 PM
To say "wildly daunting" does not mean "impossible" is almost the best kind of correct.

2021-01-22 1:43:53 PM
President Biden: "Everyone said it was impossible to do this."
Fact Checker: "Not everyone, but there was resistance"

I have no problem with this exchange.  Could President Biden have been less hyperbolic?  Sure.  But being hyperbolic is different than outright lying.  I'm very happy for fact checks to be about hyperbole instead of outright lies.

Oh my. Is it already time to start posting the Miss Me Yet Trump memes? That was quick.

2021-01-22 1:48:31 PM
Weak sauce.

The statement itself isn't of much significance-it's not a factual statement that is being used to promote or justify policy.

Wake me up if he lies about anything important.

Yeah.  Depends on the definition of "you all".  If Biden was referring to all of the individual news networks, I'm going to bet he's the one who is technically correct.  What are the chances that one of the networks did NOT include a "both sides" spokesperson?  So one expert on CNN says it's not possible or doubts that it is.  Then Sanjay Gupta says it's reasonable.  Biden's right.  They said it wasn't possible.  Oh, and they also said that it was.  One of the problems with always giving both sides equal weight with no analysis.  I don't know that this happened in this specific case, but I've seen something similar often.

I'm great with the fact checking.  Please do.  Just not sure CNN is technically correct in this case.

ChexMix, librarians!

I don't think Biden meant ALL journalist. I think he was referring to the partisan hack, traitorous ones.

Low-level b.s. compared to Trump, but Trump is the worst ever. Let's have standards, k? K. Thx.

"Some people, many people, probably all of you people but maybe some of you didn't but many people are saying that this is going to be impossible."

Is this what you folks want to go back too?  Gee ... I can still hear the moron's voice as I typed this.

2021-01-22 1:58:31 PM
It's amazing that the prior administration already managed to hit Joe Biden's targeted 1 million shots/day rate with, as CNN's anonymous sources claimed yesterday, literally no vaccine distribution plan at all.

Don't worry guys.  CNN will nip around the edges on minor points like this to try and maintain some appearance of objectivity, but they'll still tow the party line like the democrat shill they are on all of the point that count.

2021-01-22 1:58:40 PM
Aren't you supposed to fact check the president? Isn't that what the news is supposed to do?

I think subby is trying to start something.

....you're telling me NOW:

CNN has a problem with the President making sweeping general statements about the media at large?

Now, today? CNN feels attacked because they maybe got lumped in with other orgs that did say those things?
But the constant stream of "Fake news media" "enemy of the state" for the last 4 years ....that was cool?

These are the windmills CNN is tilting at?

orezona: Sure, now that we have Trump gone let's do all the things it only took 5 years to do concerning his sh*tshow of an admin because it was good for ratings immediately to President Biden day 1 to be "equal and fair and such as".

The fark are you talking about? They fact-checked Trump every single day of presidency, as they should have. They had one guy whose ENTIRE JOB was fact-checking Trump. Half their ratings were because they spent so much time consistently pointing out when Trump was wrong, misleading, lying, etc., and all their main talking heads spent countess hours doing it, too.

The idea that they didn't do it until the very end is laughable on its face.

And for others out there: This is some minor stuff, yeah, but fact-checking elected officials is what the media is supposed to do. Anyone crying that this is some "BSAB!" thing should pull their head out of their ass. We're not farking cultists and Biden isn't some savior anointed by God. He's a politician. A decent and capable one, thankfully, but a politician all the same. Whining because a politician's statement was fact-checked or clarified or put in context is stupid.

2021-01-22 2:05:33 PM
I'm OK with CNN not being the democratic version of FOX Entertainment Company who will move heaven and earth to avoid reporting anything negative on a republican, if they can help it.
