Been hearing / reading this since the early 2000s.

AdmirableSnackbar: OK, this is interesting. Go on, Majority Leader...

Let's see a bit of 14th amendment or whatever on the senators who were most closely associated with that little insurrection the other day. Make it a real majority (temporarily at least) instead of a 50% + ε.

Hey, I'm gonna give him credit for at least saying something good. Now it's time for him to walk the talk.

I think he should walk onto the floor and kick Turtle in the nuts. Then, when he's down, kick him in the nuts again.

Then say "I ask for unanimous consent on the reorgainzation bill" and if anybody objects kick him in the nuts again.

Chuck said something somewhat tough. I assume he will be back to normal by this afternoon.

Refusing to agree to not consider eliminating the filibuster is not growing a spine.

Eliminate the damned filibuster.

It's supposed to be a 50/50 split, with the VP being the tie breaker. Does that 50/50 include Bernie, who would likely side with dems?

Yes. Please proceed, sir. This is relevant to my interest.

Yeah, Biden's people are saying he's "bi[partisan]-curious" so we shall see.  Personally, I think they should ram through every goddamn ting they can, with long moratoriums on them so people get used to living in a civilized country before the f*cking republicans try to take away everything again.

Bernie is in Democratic party leadership and has always caucused with the Dems
He is part of the 50. The saying otherwise during the primary was posturing.

Now the question is if Schumer can get Manchin and Feinstein and others to hold the line.

This plus "the trial starts Tuesday" makes for an interesting intersection of forces for McConnell. I think Schumer is using the impeachment trial as leverage to establish Democratic control of the Senate. As majority leader he controls the pace and structure of the trial.

Schumer will finally have something he hasn't had in a very long time, leverage.
It will be interesting to see how well he uses it.

They should keep the filibuster but make it so you have to stand there for 24 hours making turtle sounds

I wouldn't be too sure about that. They are not well-liked among their peers.

The filibuster is fine.  It needs to be a real filibuster though like when Mr. Smith Went to Washington instead of what we have now where all the Senator has to do is raise their hand and say, "Filibuster" three times.

Like has nothing to do with it. Cruz & Hawley draw fire away from the rest of the caucus. Removing them exposes everyone else.

Mitch will keep resisting. We need the House to start handing over a few very popular, very bipartisan bits of legislation that the whole country wants the Senate to act on. This is help put the heat on McConnell to quit obstructing.

2021-01-22 12:32:33 PM
Saying stuff like this only matters if you can bypass him procedurally, and get the couple Democrats who never vote for anything that's even a hair left of mainstream right-wing neo-liberalism to join you for at least a few votes.

Less talky, more do... ey. Pelosi made Trump "impeached forever" "with [her] gavel" in the first impeachment, ooooh big deal. Who gives a shiat? Fark you, be effective.

The sunset clause in each of these quality of life bills should require a full 24-hour, all-media PSA blitz that says "Republicans are letting [X good thing] expire."

This. I'll congratulate Chuck when I see results. I've seen him talk a good game many times, and it often ended up amounting to a whole lotta nothin'.

But voting to keep them in office would tie them all together, which they don't want. There are plenty of derpy Republicans left beyond those two and there will certainly be at least a handful of Republicans who would be on the side of expulsion, which means they could convince others.

It's certainly a possibility, at least. Let's see what happens as more comes out about who was helping the insurrection from the inside.

Put it this way: Continuing to consider eliminating the filibuster is growing a spine. Actually eliminating the filibuster is having a spine.

We can, for now, but hope the spine finishes growing to maturity.
