"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your pilot speaking. According to our math up here, this flight is slightly overweight for landing. We're either going to need some brave volunteers who are willing to de-plane ahead of schedule, or we will attempt a different technique."

The tire was not very big, but its landing surprised people in the Jefferson Park neighborhood near the airport.

Who the hell isn't prepared, at all times, for a surprise airplane tire?

I sh*t you the f*ck not. Every once in a while I look up all worried some sh*t from a plane is going to fall out of the sky and  kill me. I live close to a small airport with a seemingly endless supply of biplanes and other sh*t up circling for no f*cking reason.

That poor girl.  You could hear her voice go from calm to terrified in half a second.

It wasn't a tire from the sky but it bounced out of the bed of a pickup truck in front of me at 60 mph on a busy freeway.  It hit the road and took off rolling in front of me.  It sure was a "hit your brakes and slow down" moment.  It bounced down the left hand lane until it hit the concrete median and fell over.  That damn thing could have killed someone all because some asshole didn't secure his load.

Article headline says the tire landed at O'Hare, and the first sentence says it landed between two houses. MAKE UP YOUR MIND.

...or get better writers

Jefferson Park's actually not that near O'Hare. Sometimes we get a plane that's low enough to rattle the windows, but my sister lives in Park Ridge, and I swear you can see the pilots' faces from her yard.

When I was a kid we were head on a trip up to San Francisco pulling a travel trailer, My dad said last break for a bathroom break for another 40 minutes, last minute I said yes.  He pulled off and going don the off ramp a tire shot past went across the street and hit a pole at the gas station, wobbled around like a tire does and finally laid flat.  It wasn't until we pulled into the gas station we found out it was ours.  The trailer had 4 tires so it was still holding up.  My dad just said, "I am glad you had to pee"!

Used to live in Park Ridge, and right under a take off and landing path.  I can remember counting the rivets in the bottom of the planes, or on a very dark night you could sometimes see a glow from inside the engines.  Very glad to move away from there.
