Dont forget Mr. Garibaldi.

But Mira? Damn, just...damn, I played with her Twin babies at Dragon Con in 98, those kids would be barely my sin's age now (22-ish, that is way too soon to lose a mom)

So was Mira herself, she literally risked her life many times over at the start of the break up of her native Yugoslavia to try to fight the ethnic hatreds tearing her country apart (she was Croatian IIRC) and took heavy criticism and later death threats for join an effort by artists and performers to do plays and shows with intentionally ethnically diverse casts, but she never backed down or stopped speaking out.

Someone check Billy Mumy's cornfield.

Either that, or the B5 set was built on an ancient Indian burial site.

It's been 20 years since B5 ended. Meanwhile cast of ST:TOS lived another 30 years before the oldest of them Deforest Kelly died and half of them are still alive today. And there hasn't been any major deaths among the other Star Trek shows which were all contemporary to B5.

Rene Auberjonois (Odo) and Aron Eisenberg (Nog) from Deep Space Nine are gone, but generally yes Star Trek casts have been spared. [knock wood]

The original Star Wars main cast is sadly thinned.

That's how I feel looking at family photos. I used to tell a funny story about when we were kids and the time when a bat got into the house after mom burned dinner and we left the doors open to let the smoke out. Of the people who were there, only me and one brother are still alive and despite being younger than me at 50 he has outlived his older sister who died in her late 40s, both his parents, and now only one other brother is left. Two out of five ... I ran out of people to reminisce with who were actually there that night. It really wasn't all that long ago, only a few years prior to B5. This is hitting me really hard today.

First saw her on Babylon 5, and I loved her character. She and G'kar were my favorites, because they resonated with me (well, G'kar after his religious enlightenment)... I still get chills watching that show, and still like it.

To all of those who have gone before... you are missed, and not forgotten.

B ) this is the news item where the need for separate Entertainment and 'Fandom' forums becomes apparent, right?

This one hits me hard. Even harder than Carrie Fisher... Carrie played a character who stood up against a fictitious fascist regime...

Mira Furlan was actually persecuted for standing up against a real fascist regime if you read about her background in Yugoslavia. She was a Croatian Jew who married an ethnic Serb... and suffered a great deal for it after the Croatian War for Independence... had to flee to the United States.

I always thought Buffy was going to be my favorite show of all time that I could binge time and time again.

Turns out, it's Babylon 5. Here's a great essay I once found on the show.

Looks like we have two threads going, but you know what, I don't mind because I'm double sad.  I will repeat myself here.

Goddammitsomuch.

B5 for me was about good but flawed people in a flawed universe doing what they could to make it a better place.  It's been more relevant to me now than it was at the time it aired.

RIP

Sad, hope she didn't suffer and had a peaceful exit.

My father really liked her as Delenn.
He was gone before she showed up on Lost though.

I only saw two of her roles: Delenn in Babylon 5 and the Butcher in PAYDAY 2. I loved her cantor and voice in both. I wish that I had seen more of her, but I was never going to watch Lost.

Bab5 was on Prime not so long ago.
It's gone now though.
Don't know where it's at these days.

Goddammit 2021.  You don't need to try to compete with your predecessor.

Sad, sad news.  Goodnight, classy lady.

I wish Babylon 5 had the production values of something like Battlestar Galactica, and a larger writing room to spread out the work. Much of the cast is superb, and excellent arcs, but time hasn't treated it well. Trying to introduce it as a masterpiece to those unfamiliar with it originally is a bit like trying to convince people to stick with reruns of 1980s floppy-set Spanish soap opera.

/she was also the best thing is Lost.

And if you were to guess who would be first to die at that table, it would be Peter Jurasik, given he wasn't exactly a healthy man.

Tyrone Slothrop: One of these days I need to watch B5.

It is well worth it. Sadly it will only ever be in low resolution. If you do watch it try to appreciate the weak first season for what it was. It sets up the entire series so you can't really skip it, but it has problems.

And when you watch the first season again after the whole series, you'll love all the amazing references and hints of the future.
