The signals are pretty clear that Trump didn't plan to win the Presidency. He was going to build a media empire based on trashing Hillary and the Democrats.

His transition plan? He didn't see the need for one, because it meant spending "his" money.

It was the Twitter Presidency all the way down. He didn't plan. He just reacted to the moment.

It's true. They had claimed that they were holding back half the vaccines because they wanted to make sure everyone got a second dose, and then made a big deal about how they'd release it to the states to get more people vaccinated. Then when people asked where the extra doses were, they quietly admitted that they didn't have any.

I work in an ER in Southern Oregon.

The rollout here is going okay. We have less doses than we thought we would have, which limits our options for community rollout of large mass vaccination events, but we have been making serious strides already.  Just about every healthcare worker I know is vaccinated against COVID-19, including myself.

We'll get there.  Now that adults are again in charge, we definitely will get there.  Give it time.

He had a plan.  If he was still president, he would do exactly what he was doing, Fark all, take credit for everyone else's work until the pandemic passed, then claim his plan was a resounding success.

Of course, his propaganda media outlets would have reinforced this message and 40%-45% of america would have called him the greatest president ever.

The only fatal flaw was losing the election, which coincidentally enough, he may have won if he had come up with a better plan from the start.

You can ad-lib this plan for everything Donald did in office.  It's his entire business strategy.

2021-01-21 8:56:49 AM
Okay, did anybody, anybody at all, think he did?

If so, reply to this comment with "After nearly four years, I was still unable to see that Trump was lying. Also, I'm a stupid moron with an ugly face and a big butt and my butt smells and I like to kiss my own butt."

It's not incompetence, it's at best neglect bordering on malice. They didn't try to make a plan and fail. They intentionally did not make a plan because they simply did not care. They just put up enough of a facade to get the press off their backs for a few moments. What they cared about was not being yelled at. That's it.

And if you could not figure that out six months after that orange asshole was elected, you are a stupid moron with an ugly face and a big butt and your butt smells and you like to kiss your own butt.

I am not a scientician, so take this as you like.

So I've been thinking about the current distribution guidelines.  I understand wanting to vaccinate essential workers, medical professionals, grandma and grandpa etc.  But at the same time it might be possible to be more efficient.

I believe I read that a 75% vaccination/infected(recovered) rate is required to achieve herd immunity.  Per the New York Times updated 1/20/21 there have been 35,990,150 doses distributed, and 16,525,257 shots given. With current US population of 328.2 million that means we will need at least 246,150,000 people immune before things can be considered anywhere close to under control.

Distributing the doses so much per state, even if proportioned out by population is not the best way.  Giving 2 million doses to NY may look great, but they have only been able to give 4.8% of their population a single shot.  So while there may be a few pockets of people with immunity, there are a heck of a lot more who aren't and they just don't have the shots.

In my opinion, a better solution should have been to dump the entire production runs in a specified geographic area.  Take the 35m doses and put them all in a major population center and then move out from there, or take that same 35m doses and make a big chunk of middle America 100% vaccinated.  Create "safe" zones where restrictions can be lifted.  Zones that can start getting further back to normal.  Then move on to the next area when that one is clear.

The current method is diluting the vaccination by too large of a population.  Make the current target population smaller and it can be much easier to hit the target and then move on.

Yes, this leads to some seriously uncomfortable conversations between states and cities.  Would you want to be told that Bum Fark West Mississippi where you live is going to be getting the vaccine last, after the rabble in Shelbyville get it?

It's not really in conflict - Pfizer has the doses, the government couldn't be arsed to take delivery, and then couldn't release it to the states. It's why the states are already going after Biden to allow them to buy directly from Pfizer.

Ambivalence: IgG4: They probably anticipated this.

Dreaded is probably a better word than anticipated.

Dread implies that the transition team had hope. Hope that somehow, an administration that is synonymous with grift, poor decision making, and spite, would do the right thing for people they don't even know.

If I were on the transition team, I would have started by throwing hope right out the window and building the plan from the literal ground up. Because, even if they HAD built something, it would have been built on the foundation of grift; and in six months when it came out that the distribution network that came with the white house was also distributing kiddie porn would you be shocked?
