You mean they didn't just admit to committing treason?

Jeepers, they must be innocent, then.

Curiously specific and unsolicited denials there.

Yup- "I didn't give any tours on the 5th! Just don't ask me about the 4th, 3rd, or 2nd..."

2021-01-21 8:56:43 AM
There's surveillance video, guest logs, etc that will all come out.

If they are lying about hosting tours, at a minimum they should be censured for that, and not allowed to sit on any committees for their term.

If evidence proves they knew what their activities would lead to, they need to be expelled from Congress and charged.

Judge them by their actions, not their words.

I'm a little surprised we didn't get the new routine, branded by Trump.

"I did no such thing.  But if I did it would be beautiful and perfect and completely legal.  Everyone's saying that."

2021-01-21 10:13:19 AM
We know the capitol is covered in video cameras.
I wish the capitol police would just confirm or deny this rumor once and for all.

I'd say if they knowingly lie about something that is easily verifiable it's a tacit admission of guilt, maybe not about collusion, but why lie if what you did was in no way wrong?

If it can be shown (and like you said, with video and entry logs how can it not be?) that they are lying liars who lie, and they lied about being accomplices before the fact to people who later stormed the capitol, rather than saying "yes, they were constituents and I did not know their intent, here are their names and I am fully cooperating with law enforcement," then that is enough to eject them in and of itself.

Please please pretty please let it be Cruz and ghomert

Shouldn't this be super easy to figure out? When members of congress bring guests to the capital building do they not have to sign in and out? Do they not go through security and show ID's? Is there no security camera footage?

This has been under speculation for a week or more, and it blows my mind that this isn't an insanely simple matter of checking a visitor log book.

2021-01-21 10:35:38 AM
Republicans lying? Must be a day ending in Y.

Last I checked being found guilty of treason in a time of war automatically lead to your execution.

How wonderful would it be to watch these assclowns fry in their home territory. Oh they're all for the death penalty when it's killing the poor and minorities. Shoe, other foot shiatstain.

My guess is that it's in the hands of Capitol Police and they are not sharing yet, because open investigation and all.

They may be giving the perps a chance to lie, ruining their credibility and showing consciousness of wrongdoing.

Of course, if you're a conservative, I guess I can see how it would seem a little offensive to manipulate enemies of the republic into hanging themselves with their own words.

I'm hoping it's a matter of you don't publicly reveal the evidence you're going to use in a trial until you present it as exhibit A. Though I wish the indictment and arrest portions would hurry the hell up.

It was reps from the state of Antifa.

Generally if you're going to run against a Senator or Rep for their seat you can start the digging to find the terrible things they did maybe two years prior to the election.

Rarely do they fall into your lap starting the first few weeks they took office.....

Freshman GOP Reps who deny reality, also deny aiding and abetting domestic terrorists.

I suppose next they'll deny that there's a river in Egypt.

2021-01-21 10:40:24 AM
That a bold strategy, especially considering how well documented people entering a restricted space is.

Honestly I'm surprised they are going this route, I was honestly expecting the "I had no knowledge they were planning anything and I am appalled to have been used in such a manner by terrorist. It just goes to show that we have to be vigilant as I can happen to anyone, even red blooded patriots like me" maneuver. It'll be interesting to see how their stories change when the FBI starts interviewing them.

I figure they'll wait until the FBI arrests them for something, which they will do even if they're tangentially linked to the coup. Conspiracy in an attempted coup should be enough for even the majority of the GOP to kick their asses out.

Just a matter of time.

If they gave tours to family and friends in violation of covid protocols. they should be censured.

If they gave tours to anyone identified as participating in the failed coup attempt, they should be arrested immediately.

I don't think any of the people involved in this, from the chief instigator down to the people who were just "there" and did not actively break in, realize just how lucky they are.  In most advanced nations, mass arrests would have been the order of the day.  In many places, most of these people would never see the light of day again.

Former judges and solicitor generals usually do things that keep them from getting caught so easily, but not always.  Of course, Cruz's special website on Epik is just a coincidence.  Just because he's on the Senate Judiciary Committee ("It'll take some cash to help get your guy on the bench"), or  just because Gohmert is on the House Judiciary Committee, doesn't mean that money is afraid of his "campaign" pocket.

2021-01-21 10:44:16 AM
Rapepublicans would never lie or support an insurrection!

I mean, just yesterday the NYT released their final tally and Dotard told 30,000 absolutely true, 100% bigly truths during his presidency!

And there is no record of Bobert tweeting the location of elected officials during the terrorist attack, and no one saw her giving a tour of Congress, and Majorie didn't wear a mask saying "Censored" while speaking into a microphone live on national TV...these are totally rational people on the up-and-up, I swear!

Perhaps it has been checked and the investigators are looking into further to gather more evidence or checking riot footage to see if anyone on the tour entered the Capital.

Maybe the investigators didn't want to make any public statements on the matter while Trump was on his Pardon Tour.

The bugaboo here is still in the removed panic buttons from Congressional offices. The same people possessing that capability might not find it all that difficult to disconnect cameras, delete drives, etc. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez still isn't saying much about her close encounter because of "security concerns."

There is a farkton we don't know and very likely won't know, ever. Welcome to the global war on terror, America. It happens in the shadows. And you are left to guess at what it all might mean.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw a rep leading proudboys through the capitol.

And I thought there were lots of tweets thanking the gun lady for the tour, time stamped the 5th...

I am entertained by the story-line that the insurrectionists gave tours and had conspired ahead of time. But I'm skeptical.

First, it seems too easy. Second, given how the idiots during the riot kept posting selfies, videos and photos to their social media, I rather think evidence would be out on social media if they had been given these tours, and further that it would have been made public by now.

There's just no evidence that these idiots are capable of hiding their crimes. They were proud of what they were doing and boasting about it. So I'm not holding my breath that we'll actually get surveilance video of the ring leaders giving some of the rioters tours.

If there is proof they aided and abetted the rioters, I hope they add involuntary manslaughter to the charges.

I understand what you're saying but the doofuses who were posting on social media were not the ones planning to kidnap Congressman.  The ones planning to do some serious crimes probably knew better than to take photos and post them, even of the during the recon tour.

No that would be unheard of.

And surely the Dems wouldn't make vague conspiracy accusations based on rumors to generate a headline... that would be unheard of.

Please try to appreciate, if these were right wing claims against Dems, the headline construct would be "[so and so] claims, without evidence, x y z" or "Republicans spread baseless conspiracy theory about x".

Its also possible the did actually get a tour in advance by some other very,
very clever means:
