Even if one buys into the legend that Billy The Kid wasn't killed by Garrett and did live into the 1940s or whenever, everyone else involved was long dead. As in, we saw them shot dead in the movies. Is this a ghost story or something? Is Billy hiding out somewhere in 1914 and suddenly starts getting visits from his old gang? Who happen to have aged as he has?

Like half of the characters very clearly died.

They didn't mention Alan Ruck. He's not dead, is he?

This is not happening. Maybe there's a pitch idea or a script attempt and the writer of the first 2 really wants it to happen but there's really zero confirmation from anyone of the leading cast in the article. And saying "Lou Diamond Phillips has acknowledged the news" can mean he acknowledged there is an attempt to make the movie. If there was something like him saying "yes, I'm doing it, we start filming in X" it would be front and center in the article.

The only way it could work is if they did a "Terminator: Dark Fate" thing and just ignored the sequel and we saw that idea go over like a pregnant pole vaulter.

Maybe make it like an alternate timeline where Billy the Kid ate Pat Garrett before he could shoot him:

I don't think it was necessarily a bad thing.

The problem with Terminator: Dark Fate" wasn't that they messed with the time-line, and changed things.  It's a time travel movie.  That's allowed.  in fact, it's *EXPECTED*.   After all, the whole thing is about changing the future.

Where T:DF fell apart is when you've got a 63 year old woman trying to be the same kind of action star she was back when she was 35 (T2).

I was buying it for a bit, then when the real physical action started I was like "Crap, she's gonna break a hip".

And yeah, that kind of thing goes for males, too.  Michael Gross as Burt Gummer just really isn't credible as an action star anymore, and I was shocked, but approved, of the way they ended Tremors: Shrieker Island.

There was an appropriate role in that film for Linda Hamilton, but they didn't give it to her.

As long as you are casting actors for rolls where the characters clearly died, why don't you bring back Jack Palance. Tarkin him up a bit, then bring in Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern, and Joe Pesci for a  crossover. "Young Gun City Slickers Home Alone on the Range." - "this summer... the antelope.. will... PLAY!"

/exactly as dumb as making Young Guns 3 with original cast.
//slightly more dumb than the premise of Young Guns 2.

Ok I was a massive fan of Young Guns 2 and to this day I even think Blaze of Glory is a masterpiece of western flavored pop-rock songwriting.  But my reaction to this is "huh?"

I agree the ending was weak but that's...how it ended.

I don't think it is so much the older actors but the time line itself. Billy the kid getting runover by a car is going to be awesome.

Even if they stay out in the west, most of it is going to be well cordoned off. Heck, that was part of the premise of the first movie.

Can we bring Val Kilmer back as Doc Holliday or would that be too many dead Docs for Young Guns 3.   I am not going to lie, even if it is a bad idea, I will watch this third movie, lived the first two and enjoy these  rock westerns even if historically dubious.

/going to be rough seeing Jenny Wright still playing a prostitute but I will power through to see if she shows her ass again.

No. Val Kilmer plays Jim Morrison who wanders from his desert acid trip scene into the Young Guns desert peyote trip scene.

I'd like to work in the  Batman Begins fear flower tripping scene, but I can't make it fit as seamlessly as the rest.

It has nothing to do with age, it's that at least three of the characters (I haven't seen it in decades) are very clearly dead.

Stop. Do a little rewrite of even that. Val Kilmer playing Jim Morrison walking into the peyote trip scene, and then throw in Zahn McClarnon reprising his role as Crow Daddy from Doctor Sleep just farking around with everybody throughout the movie. We might have something interesting with that.
Because I sure as hell didn't ask for a Young Guns 3.
