while on a routine training mission.

Not so much, now. :-(

This is why it's so crucially important to check the fuel gauge before takeoff.

Military training helicopter crashes seem to happen way too often. They are the U.S. version of bus plunges and overcrowded ferry sinkings.

think of all the thousands of military helicopter flights happening all the time that dont crash, realize what you're saying is kinda dumb, and then feel bad for a few minutes.

Aren't there more commercial flights and don't they have less accidents per capita? (Deadly ones)

I used to work in chopper maintenance up here. On a Nato exercise I was told by a USN chief that the big problem they had in maintenance in the US Armed Forces was the lack of experienced people staying in the service, so a huge amount of the work was being done by guys with very little time on the aircraft type.

As the CEO of Antifa, I have checked with my chief financial officer and have been told that using our limited SAM stock on a domestic army helicopter wouldn't be cost-effective.

I was waiting to see someone grab the other side of the black swan. But helicopters are dangerous, and the low rate of tragedy is remarkable.

Commercial flights are thousands way more than that everyday, fewer crashes.

Military just needs planes and helicopters built to stay in the air.

Military flights push a lot closer to the envelope than commercial.  Commercial pilots' job is to stay as far the hell away from the edge of the envelope as possible, Military, especially training for combat, can not do that and still be ready for combat missions.

I appreciate the National attention this is getting in the news (I live in the area) but also two foster children were forcefully abducted here two days ago and just found under floorboards and blankets in a car in Alabama.  Let's cover that one too.

You can. Just crowded.
It was a medevac from what I read that can accommodate 4-6 litters.

4 crew + 14 lightly loaded. Tight fit though.

This. What the military does with aircraft is far more difficult than flying grandma to Toledo.

Yes - just found and safe. Sorry I did not make that clear. Still no word on who abducted or where they were going.

I was 68B (turbine mechanic) Army.  I joined largely for the GI bill.  1 6year tour and out.  By the time I was ETSing I had become pretty proficient, but I didn't know much of shiat starting out.
