Shut down private schools.  Seriously.  The DeVos fundamentalist plan is to destroy public education and replace it with private white supremacist Jesus.

Stop the racists at the Texas board of education from inserting Moses into history books or calling slaves "workers."

De-militarize the police, massively alter their job description to reduce the amount of police and instead replace them with trained mental health and social workers or public advocates.

B*tch slap away all the voter suppression installed by the GOP.  Require localities to make voting easy, perhaps maximum distance to a voting center, minimum number of voting machines per voter, etc.

Remove cash bail for non-violent offenses.  Base bail on assets/income.  Find ways to break the racist policing and sentencing in the justice system.  Start charging the rich folks who poison water ways or commit fraud and sending them to prison for real.

Well the military trains people to kill and have zero empathy for the enemy. In this case the enemy is democrats and minorities.

I grew up in a rural community in the 80s. The people in positions of authority in those communities do everything in their power to control information. It took the better part of a decade to de-program myself of the lunacy I was immersed in. I just didn't get out quite fast enough. The church fantasies of prosperity gospel with a mixture of Chick tracts thrown in are central to that - get the kids scared, keep them compliant, leverage that well into adulthood.

Yeah, all of the last four years have felt all too sickeningly familiar.

Let's see, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Iraq and Iraq again.

It seems like the enemies of the US military have been people of color for a long time.

Phyllis Schlafly's-who largely shaped today's conservative moment-son is a home school teacher that started his own wiki to argue about the theory of relativity is a liberal hoax because a student gave him a paper that used C.E. instead of A.D., and people are seriously wondering how conservatives have been radicalized?

This is the result of literal decades of ignoring reality because of reality's well-known liberal bias.

As weddingsinger pointed out, we need to ban private schooling. I'm also opposed to home schooling, but if we're going to allow it (or either), we need to have very, very strict standards on what they can and cannot do. I don't think it's possible to enforce such standards in a pragmatic sense, so the better option is to ban private schools.

Something something First Amendment, though. Which is why we can't have nice things and eventually this country will fall to theocratic fascism.

As a victim of RC dogma-cation, all I can say is that this whole Invisible Sky Wizard cult sub-space needs to be removed from any and all policy and governance. It's free to endure as a LARP in whatever non-influencing (on general democracy) form it takes.

I can't believe I am advocating for Soviet ideal, but the pursuits of the soul have to be divested from the pursuits of the mind and disassociated from the governance of here and now.

It's doable with testing to make sure that certain subjects and topics are covered. It's quite another to make sure that certain subjects/topics SHOULDN'T be covered. I guess it's possible to ask a question like, "How many days of rain occurred during the great flood for which Noah and his family built an ark to survive through?" (Sorry for the awkward phrasing.) But the student can be taught to deliberately answer those questions wrong, too.

So, I know you're joking about MLP, but...

Let me just say that I'm embarrassed to call myself a gamer or a brony anymore, because they both have a rather prolific radicalization pipeline. There's a serious problem with Nazi groomers on the MLP community preying on people with poor social skills that have seriously misconstrued their show's messages about tolerating others.

2021-01-20 6:29:10 PM
Yep, right on.  Religion, the often blind faith that comes with it, and those religious leaders who exploit it are largely responsible for Trumpism even being possible.  Many Evangelical leaders are little different from Trump himself, just transparent con artists.  Religion in this country needs a demotion.  Arming everyone with an effective, broad, basic education that promotes critical thinking skills would go a long way toward that.

surely church, homeschooling/home environment.

but also social acceptance of toxic masculinity in those circles, seriously, who talks like that Mcinnes guy (sp?), who hears that shiat and thinks; 'he's right, ya know" some people are just assholes and should be treated as such, and military service does not exclude one from being a complete asshole, in fact, i think it can bring out the hidden asshole in anyone.

I'm sure a lot of people with low self esteem get sucked in by the hate groups because if they pretend to believe the hate, they'll be 'cool' and 'welcome', then they will personally justify the hate and start to believe the lies. like it's the new social group on campus 'the jerks', since the Klan has lost its sparkle.

there may be many reasons any one person might get caught up in the alt right conservative savior of America radicalization game, i'd chalk most of it up to ignorance, stupidity, and the need to fit in. unfortunately, there are a lot of people who need to fit in, who can't be happy with themselves as is or think that loneliness = being a loser.

Republicans targeted the angry victims of 'conservative' capitalism (such as people who were encouraged to make their job their identity and then lost it), as well as people who got used to being privileged at the expense of everyone else and then saw their status start to slip as other people got rights, and they used propaganda to exploit that anger and direct it towards the "undesirables".

2021-01-20 6:39:59 PM
For real tho, we seriously do need to rethink this whole freedom of religion thing.

I understand that faith is nice. Faith is important to a lot of people, and there are a lot of religious organizations that do a lot of good for their community. But holy hecking crap, we need to stop being so laissez faire when it comes to these mega churches with pastors that are clear megalomaniacs that are pulling in millions of tax exempt revenue all the while contributing to the radicalization pipeline.

In the 70s, the baptist pastor in our town made sure every 7th grade boy in town got this little red Bible companion book.  It went in to detail and the level of sin tapping caused.  Just for the dudes, I guess.  Chicks were free to run 'em out.  No seed spilling.
Didn't even go to his church.  The Pentecostal guy was big in to not drinking.
Those were our sources of information.   Sex ed was half an hour.  Scary looking vajayjay and either deflated lerner or an old elephant in profile.
