Apparently when choosing the spiffy tag, Subby didn't get to the part where the park rangers don't think that the cub will survive because at some point the cub is going to pose a threat to the troop.

This isn't a common housecat being adopted and remaining in an infantile state as most human-kept housecats do, this is a cat that has the capacity to overwhelm the baboons.

Makes for adorable pix as long as one doesn't think about the future of that cub.

I realize this is a bit different circumstance, but at least a couple of groups of baboons have been observed kidnapping feral puppies and effectively raising them up in the group.  The dogs provide protection and provide sentry duty at night.  I don't know what the explanation is, but it certainly LOOKS like the baboons are intentionally "domesticating" these dogs on the surface.  I was able to find the video that I remembered.  Not sure why the quality is so fuzzy, but you get the idea.  (warning: a little bit of rough treatment of feral puppies but nothing gruesome)

At some point, humans were doing the same thing with house cats.  One day, one of these baboons is going to get lucky, and we're going to be in real trouble.  Can you imagine a pack of baboons with its own pride of lions?  That's not a good thought.  Very bad for the safari business, I guarantee it.

Better keep a close eye on the situation.
