We either return to the deal, or within 50 years every country on the planet gets nukes.

I vote deal.

Giving a country something that it wants in exchange for something that you want....

I dunno, it could work.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa there cowboy.. Are you suggesting 'reasoning' be involved in politics between countries?  It's almost like Obama tried this shiat and it actually worked..

Then 4 years of not even bothering to try..

Hey subs, they were respecting the deal before Trump pulled out of it.

They were in full compliance with the deal before trump shat all over it. I don't see why we shouldn't be able to get back to that.

Their economy is pretty much destroyed at this point. Even with a few deals from the EU... they are desperate for any kind of deal.

At the very least, the Biden admin should lift the sanctions on medicine and medical supplies.  That will go a long way to fostering some good feelings, not only among the Iranians but among a lot of people around the world

Because until we pass a law saying the potus can't unilaterally withdraw from a treaty, the entire world knows that anything they sign with the US has a four year shelf life.

/It's this kind of shiat that has me saying that while everything else is bad, it's the international standing that Trump pissed away that is going to end up being the most damaging part of his legacy.
//We ain't never getting that back, the best we can do is stop it from getting worse.

The problem is that the Iran deal was never ratified by Congress, due to Republicans. Presidents can't unilaterally withdraw from legally binding treaties. That's why we're still in NATO.

We should not only reinstate the deal, but pay back Iran for all of the damage caused to their economy by our unilateral and illegal withdrawal.

Of course, that's not going to happen. Might makes right, the Amurcan way.

We may or we may not. It's harder to make deals when you get a reputation for not honoring them.

If another country broke a deal with us, how much difference would it make to your or me if they elected a new leader? I'd be open to listening but remain skeptical. I'd probably try to negotiate a better deal.

Well, it's a good thing that the deal is not based on trusting Iran.

But I've been told that we have to nuke Iran because someday they might get nukes themselves and nuke someone else without any provocation (neglecting all the provocation of killing their generals and scientists even on their own soil).

I mean Iran is a rogue nation (because we said so) so we have to be even more of a rogue nation to stop them, but they're the evil ones.

"A rogue president who sought vengeance against his OWN people has been doing much worse to our people-and others-in the past 4 years.

What's disturbing is that the same man has the UNCHECKED authority to start a nuclear war; a security concern for the entire int'l community." - Zavad Jarif, January 7, 2021

The deal is based on deep suspicion of Iran, which is why it includes surveillance, supervision, and inspections.

Rejoining an international agreement and re-removing sanctions doesn't take that much work.

Here's a deal: we agree to deliver Donnie 2 Scoops to the international war crimes court, and in exchange they agree to televise the trial.

They respected it after he pulled out, as well.  It wasn't until 2019 that they decided that they needed to abandon it when the European membership didn't help them out with the sanctions the US was applying in violation of the agreement.

At this point the rest of the (sane) world trusts Iran more than they do the US, so hopefully they can arrange something good.

Only problem I can see is that Israel and Saudi Arabia 100% do NOT want American rapprochement with Iran, so that'll probably kill it.

It was never a treaty, as the Senate never ratified it.  Senators even sent an open letter reminding Iran that only a treaty is binding on the country.

Might be a really nice way to try to convince Iran to trust the US.  Seems like a good suggestion.  At the VERY least, the apology part would be nice.

I vote that we drop 30 nukes on Iran and 30 nukes on North Korea, then we ask if China how serious it is about Taiwan.  Then drop 30 nukes on them and ask if they've changed their minds.  Then drop 90 more, and ask them why they keep hitting themselves.

Then we activate the tornado and earthquake generators, and light off a few surprise volcanoes.  While that's going on, begin vaporizing people with space-based lasers, and send drone swarms to eat people on live television.

Once all of that is done, we can probably relax for a bit.  Except ... surprise, surprise!  We pointed several asteroids at the earth years ago, and they all happen to strike today, in random locations so we can all act surprised as we explode.

/But we knew...
