It's so close to being able to check it off my timw-traveler list, but not 100% (not died for nothing but a similar distraction), and technically not the US:

☑ Do something willfully negligent
☑ Admit thing was done didn't fix anything
☑ Stay the course
☑ Suppress and deflect mounting evidence of bad decision that desperately needs reversing.
☑ Continue staying the course as people die in droves, claim you're doing an awesome job and things could be worse.
☑ Someone needs to be held accountable now that there's concrete proof of wrongdoing. Definitely not person responsible.
☑ Stay the course, "because it's too late to do anything now. Better just push through."
It's too soon to talk about all those deaths or changing things, otherwise they died for nothing.

/Conservativism is so predictably evil and spineless.
//Gonna hold out for a few months, as I'm still thinking the right wing will use it.

☑ Make a list that could apply to any government, any time, anywhere.
☑ Attribute it only to 'conservatives'.

The pandemic isn't over and as long as the experts keep changing their advice and recommendations it's a bit premature to start talking about mismanagement.

I've been assured on Fark that the problems in England - highest death rate in the world, third highest total deaths per million in the world, twice Scotland's death and infection rates - are all because the French aren't doing enough vaccination.

I remain continually unimpressed by the UK government at all levels. Their local "councils" with their draconian "bin" management policies, etc. are even worse than the national government.

/their governments are even worse than ours

Blame the French. No one like them anyway.

I'm not schooled in the ways of England, but I think my pal George Monbiot is, and he writes even prettier than Fark:

Those who run this country have been instructing us for years that the government should get out of the way, ceding its powers to an abstraction they call the market. Governing well is, to them, almost a form of sacrilege. The state should be timid, shrivelled, incapable.
Faced with a national emergency, led by a man whose first instinct is to dump responsibility and transfer blame to others, they lurch from error to error, turning every crisis into catastrophe. And even now, almost a year into the pandemic yet still without a plan, the government ensures that our suffering will once again be in vain.

That sounds an awful lot like this country.
And I just heard a story on the news about how our Standard of Living (the very most important thing ever that always has to go UP) is actually going DOWN. Our kids are poorer than we are. If that's true, my kid is in trouble. But true to the predictions--my predictions.

We're going down. The world is tired of us and our demands, and we can't buy our way out of it this time. I think it's amazing and shocking that we did the first time--in 2008. But you pigs did it--you flogged a dying planet into coughing up some more entertainments for you, so you could keep ignoring reality.
But keep biatching about how the Boomers, or Trump, or the wrong government caused it. Your mother is talking now, and just like when you were young--you can't hear a thing.
It's time to grow up.

To a certain mindset (you know, morons) there is nothing which can't be blamed on the French.

I'm 65 years old, lived through three day weeks during the Winter of Discontent, and other national crises, but this government is the worst I can remember. Complete incompetence from top to bottom.

Half the people who died should still lived

Half the people.

Our public health infrastructure and bioscience expertise is world class so it is not that we don't know how to deal with this.

Boris and his collection of cronies he calls a government are responsible. This is the biggest test any PM has faced since WW2 and Boris has been weighed, measured and has been found wanting. The blood of tens of thousands are on his hands.

Ok. But...  It might be time to get rid of the learning disabled orangutan with the bowl haircut before he manages to literally sink Britain.
