And people start ringing their hands when I keep telling them your Kumbaya and cardboard signs ain't gonna stop a bullet. I live in a very hippy town and none of these people get it. When side A has all the guns and WILL use them at the drop of a hat and side B has tambourines and "Peace and Love"... which one do you think will be left standing?? It sure as hell ain't Moonchild Flowersong...

Arm up or escape... That is the only option anymore. No shame in running, better a living coward than a dead hero.

"His work in outreach, mediating conflicts and reducing gun violence in our city was invaluable and he embodied a message of redemption and peace to the many young people of our city," Harrison said in a statement.

That work is so important, and I'm sad that this person was gunned down.  Baltimore is such a f*cking sh*thole; it needs more people mediating disputes and promoting peace.

But the onus is really on city officials.  Baltimore is a rolling dumpster fire because everyone in power is corrupt.  End of.

There has been corruption in the BDP but it's not pervasive and is a small part of Baltimore's problem.

Crime is so pervasive in the city, and drug dealing is a lucrative source of income for many, so naturally the cops are seen as the enemy.

The legal system refuses to lock up offenders, juveniles in particular (there was a report that one judge literally released every juvenile that appeared before her). Sentences for everything in Baltimore are very lenient, meaning a violent offender you testified against is back on your street in short order.

You wrap all this together and you get something close to a failed state, with corruption and violence among the highest in America (the prior two mayors were forced from office due to corruption).

Trying to pin all this on the police is delusional at best.

In Baltimore that's part of their witness protection program.

When is B'more getting it's own tag?

I agree there's corruption, like with how our government refused to allow money to be put towards AC units for Baltimore schools during some of the heatwaves in 2019, but it sounds like you've never stopped to consider that maybe throwing kids in jail doesn't help? It's clear that you've also not stopped to consider the fact that Baltimore jails are currently overcrowded, especially considering the city has now started reviewing sentencing guidelines because the prison population is too full.

I know it's really easy to be just "Well if the cops say it, it must be true" but come on. At least wash the taste of boot out of your mouth once in a while.

Not locking up juveniles committing violent crimes sets a really bad example for them, and those watching them, and makes life dangerous for their targets. That's why you need to lock up violent juveniles. A shoplifting juvenile should definitely be sanctioned but not necessarily locked up as they're not a physical danger, even though they are stealing money from the shopkeep.

It's this acceptance, and even encouragement of this criminogenic environment that leads to Baltimore being such a sh•thole. But it's a little like the NRA: they're willing to accept gun killings in order to protect gun rights. In Baltimore, they want to protect the lucrative drug trade so they're willing to accept the crime and violence.
