Rumor has it Level 1 violations. Paying current players and recruits anywhere from $10-80k to come to Tennessee and creating fake receipts at hotels for unofficial recruits visits as a way to give them envelopes of cash.

Allegedly.

Hey...I'm unemployed, so I am considering a career change.

That is what you get, Fat Phil. You multiple times backstabbing rat fark. I hope Nick Saban calls a press conference and reveals that he was the one who started the ball rolling on Tennessee getting caught, Bama fans would love him more for that than any amount of national titles he could possibly win.

Not to mention cheating against Ohio State in the 1996 Citrus Bowl with illegal length spikes on cleats. Not that I hold grudges or anything.

Just to tweak Fat Phil even more, before announcing it was him I want Nick Saban to publicly deny that it was him.

Thank you for providing this crucial information that the shiatty article chose to ignore in favor of giving us 10,000 words about what law firms are being retained by the various parties involved.

I know its ESPN reporting, so expectations shouldnt be very high. But JFC, if you're going to write an article about firings for cause over violations, you could at least include some info about the whole "violations" part.

And they hired an external investigator to solidify those charges, so they could bail on Pruitt with cause.  Not saying it was wrong to dump a coach bad at both winning and hiding violations, but after running Schiano out of town and this?  Good luck getting a quality candidate to take this uphill battle and having to play UF, UGA, and Bama every year.

I'm always amazed when that happens. They didn't even get anything out of it. You at least want a quick run at the top 5 before it catches up to you.

The thing is, is that it happens all of the time. Teams get caught cheating, and not low level cheating, and they still don't win. Not only are they bad at winning, but they are also bad at cheating.

I grew up watching the Vols but for the past few years the frustration has been giving way to apathy. This past fall we watched the games if possible but we made no special plans to and abandoned it when it inevitably went downhill. I'll always hope for brighter days down the road but I doubt they're coming anytime soon and I've ran out of farks to give for the time being. We actually have an ok basketball team to watch now and the Titans are doing alright.

For some people money isn't enough to go to a shiatty team, especially if you're thinking about the best way to get the NFL money that will dwarf a Happy Meal of cash.

You're a Tennessee fan. Don't you already know this?

To make a long story short, Phil Fulmer was the lead confidential witness for the NCAA concerning Alabama paying for recruits. Reports leaked that named Fulmer which Fulmer denied but which were later shown to be true via a lawsuit IIRC.

I don't blame Alabama or Fulmer in principle because they're both playing the game and this is the real world where nobody is clean but Fulmer's lying about it earned Tennessee a special sort of enmity from Alabama.

That Fulmer backstabbed a legend (among other instances) to get the head coaching job in Knoxville did him no favors with others.

So much this.  I'm surrounded by Vol fans, and while they're getting better, they talk as if theirs is a great coaching job at one of the country's best programs.    The last two coaching searches have helped many of them figure out that they're Mississippi St at best, possibly at Kentucky's level.  But an awful lot of them still have delusions of grandeur.
