It's Disney, they could afford the royalties.

That said, if they can get the uncut Muppet Family Christmas on there, I'll stop badmouthing the mouse

When Disney released the DVDs a decade ago, there were several bits cut.  Vincent Price singing, "You've Got a Friend," for example.

Hopefully that means finally releasing the original Muppet Babies and Muppets Tonight.  Both suffer from licensing hell for all of the pop culture clips/usage.

I'm reasonably excited about this. The Muppet Show was always pretty family friendly, but still felt subversive somehow. I'll be viewing Ms. Ronstadt's episode first. Be sure not to interrupt me if you value your safety.

That's its own separate problem; there's a ton of movie clips in that series that create a whole separate litany of rights issues

About freaking time. As a kid we never ate dinner in front of the TV except for The Muppet Show and The Carol Burnett Show. As a pun lover my favorite skit was "Veterinarian's Hospital", the continuing story of a quack who has gone to the dogs.

I dig what you're saying.

It's been well over 30 years since I've seen it, but I recall most of the clips were Jim Hensen/George Lucas stuff.

Minus the Wizard of Oz, I didn't realize it went beyond that.

And they flat-out gave up on the DVDs after season 3 and never released the last two seasons.  So hopefully this streaming release is fully intact with all the songs.

Best part is; this is classic Muppets, not an attempt at something new, like last year. Or was it the year before? It feels like last year was a decade long, though.

That recent reboot was terrible.  I tried to give it a chance, but it was just not enjoyable at all.

Also, am I the only one that thinks Miss Piggy is a generally obnoxious character that gets way too much attention compared to better characters?  She wasn't as bad in the original show, but in the past decade or two, I just find her annoying.

It had its moments, but mostly agree.  Ajay drove me nuts that they kept doing that zoomy camera thing that tries to make it look like a reality show.

Yeah, they were trying for the look from 'The Office', and I can barely handle that as it is. That style has to be done right.

Actually... Disney has their own Recording Study and Distribution company... But that does give me a thought. If they owned all the idiot RIAA members... music rights could be easily consolidated and Disney owned properties would never have licensing issues ever again.

It's almost enough for me to want them to buy RCA, Columbia, Capitol, Interscope, etc. They may be able to just buy the RIAA itself and accomplish the same goal, which might be a lot more efficient. If they did that, maybe they could fix the issue with other media using music, re-releasing for a new medium and getting farked on music usage rights.

That would be nice

Yeah, I can kinda see that... Of course, the variety shows had a lot of old vaudeville actors (And those who learned form the vaudeville peeps), so they could (And would) do more than just sing or dance. But you're right, they're the closest we have to a variety show now.

The muppets 30 Rock / Office ripoff was pretty funny, but they made a mistake with Kermit being a spineless pushover and making an overly obnoxious Piggy the central character. Plus a divorce and the fact that they slept around and drank.

They pushed it too far.

I want them to go back to doing classic novels in Muppet format, with some muppets and some humans.

Someone on Twitter had suggested Bram Stoker's Dracula, for instance. (Dracula and Van Hellsing would be human actos--- possibly Mark Hamil for Helsing. Gonzo would be a natural fit for Renfield...)

Felgraf: want them to go back to doing classic novels in Muppet format, with some muppets and some humans.

That format really works well.  Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island both showed that.

Maybe then next film could be Muppet Oliver Twist, If that works, expand it to other classic novels.  Muppet 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.  Muppet War Of The Worlds.  Muppet Lord Of The Flies.  Muppet Nineteen Eighty-Four.   Muppet Lolita.
