Single episode to cover all of the 'plot', so not that much time focusing on the debauchery really.  Probably a lot of implied and a scene or two of shock value.  Wonder if they're going to give it an Epstein reference twist, since the sort of slow trawling an entire culture into sexual excess and kinky island sex was basically the same sort of story.

Ennis needs an editor with full veto power. Seriously.

Herogasm was bad and pointless. Anything that was told there as a part of the larger story could have been rolled up in the story at large.

And I don't remember the artist, but a good portion (all? too lazy to look at it again) was...subpar to say the least.

The show is so far over the top that this doesn't surprise me at all. This "herogasm" sounds needless and detracting from the main story. I didn't read the source material but I know enough about it to say 'nay' to this side quest. If it's used to setup Vaught and the Seven in some kind of plot to destroy their image, then sure. But do we really need over the top sex with over the top violence?

The part from the first episode, with the tiny supe taking a running head first leap into a chick's whoodee-who wasn't enough for you?

I thought the show was wild and over the top at times.  Then I read the comic book.  The show just scratches the surface of the WTF-ness of the comics.

On a fun note, if your local library has hoopla, you can read the whole series for free at home.

I kind of figured they couldn't resist that. Plus, why else would you need anyone to play SoldierBoy if not to watch him get effed up the A by you know who?

Or when Stormfront is giving Homelander a handy in an alley and he kills a man when he comes.

I didn't know Amazon wanted to get into x-rated material. That arc was pretty raunchy, even by The Boys standards.

You might be misunderstanding my comment. What I'm saying is that there's already too much as it is. Adding more would be detrimental to the show.

The US is weird with its priorities. No one complains when the violence is extreme, but god forbid someone is shown getting their rocks off.

The fact that you think violence is more acceptable than sex says a lot about you.

Why? Wasn't it a separate cash-in mini-series like the Butcher series? It was basically ignorable from the go, no?

If Hughie doesn't take a thumb to the bum, I'm rioting. Meet me in the US capitol.

Well see here is the problem, if a bunch of youngens see sex and not violence they may be influenced to get outside of their parents basements and go meet people instead of sulking in dark room stocking up on ammo to kill people in a mass shooting spree. Won't someone think of the poor gun & ammo industry for once!

I can't believe anyone familiar with the source material would complain about this. I can believe people would not want to watch it, but that's so easy to do that also complaining about it seems pointless. If you are going to sign up to consume a Garth Ennis property, then, well, you're going to get some of this. Expecting them to avoid any of the original source material when trying to make several seasons out of a limited run may have been a foolish expectation.

I'm intrigued to see just how far they'll go with it. I think it would be fun to see Hughie freaking out at the depravity, as he usually does, but I don't know if it's worth a full episode.

On the bright side, boobies.

Counterpoint:  The show and the comic appear to be heading in very different directions thematically, Herogasm is basically the last bit of the comic that fits both directions equally well.  It was pretty inevitable that it'd feature in the show before the plot-lines necessarily have to diverge to accommodate this.

// To be clear, I'm cool with both of the directions in question: the above was an observation, not a complaint.  The show's whole-hearted embrace of the cynicism that the comic ultimately rejects is honestly much more charming and less disturbing than the original, and I'm old enough to have grown up with Loony Toons so I'm fully capable of enjoying the wackiness.

This. Garth Ennis is the Seth Rogan of comics.  Or vice versa with film.

As someone or many have said before, Ennis needs an editor. So far they've walked the line with his stuff keeping it filmable. I'm sure it will be bonkers and toothless, and not revel in it like half the comic did. It had some great arcs and stories but also was just so out there. I cannot imagine Amazon would allow what people may be fearing to just go unchecked. They've done great so far, no reason to doubt them now.

I was kind of disappointed there wasn't part of this scene where Stormfront attacks Starlight only to find out it actually supercharges her instead of hurts her. Although that was kind of already done in The Avengers.

Which is kind of funny because Seth is a big fan of Ennis and produced The Boys and Preacher.
