(Guardian)   If you didn't know that Eurostar was the rail line that linked the UK with continental Europe, that's OK. It won't be there for much longer anyway   (theguardian.com) divider line

That would be a shame - it's fast and a fun way to see the French countryside at 300 km/h.

It's the best way to go from Paris to London, for sure.

But damn, EuroStar, get some newer carriages !

That's what my wife and I expected, but all I really remember seeing is fencing to keep livestock and people off the rail line and grass.

Greasing yourself up and swimming the Channel is better than Ryanair.

Don't worry about it. Government-supported high speed rail systems that go bankrupt just get bought for pennies on the dollar and reopened with much less debt.

That's how Japan did it, for example. They bought a lot of real estate, built up the system, went broke, and reopened with a fraction of the debt, which is why they can afford to be so good. If they hadn't done that, they'd have to charge at least twice as much for a ticket, just to keep up payments on the old debt.

Eurostar just needs to line up some well-connected rich people to buy them out when they go bankrupt.

So, how much of the downturn in ridership is because of the pandemic, and how much is because of Brexit?
