Buncha "he said, she said" bullshiat. Where's the evidence?

She used a shared public account to access public health data.

DeScrotis is abusing the power of his office to falsely accuse her of a crime that doesn't even exist.

Hopefully the ACLU sends in their best legal team to help, and then goes after the governor.

When all else fails Republicans always resort to their favorite pastime: brutalizing women.

To clarify, they sent swat to storm her house for posting something on a state network, found no evidence of that, but found evidence of something... which they won't divulge to her or her lawyers.

I assume eating babies.

Good luck, brave lady.

I believe Mark Zaid is already involved.

Wow a (weak but still there) echo of the Russian story from yesterday. Person who pissed off authoritarian leader taken away to jail on trumped up charges.

Way to go Murca you reached the bottom of the barrel. Best keep digging.

And the state didn't actually bother collecting evidence for the fake crime, because the entire thing was a pretext to get her personal phone and find the whistleblowers who've been communicating with her.

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that you can be arrested for something without there being any obligation to tell you or your lawyer what it is you're being charged with.  Kafka's somewhere sipping tea.

FTA: Jones is charged with one count of "offenses against users of computers, computer systems, computer networks and electronic devices," the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said in a statement Monday.

What a bullsh*t charge.

Socialist party response to this: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2021/01/18/pers-j18.html

"After being fired from her position, Jones went on to help create and oversee Florida COVID Action and The COVID Monitor-the most comprehensive databases for tracking COVID-19 infections and deaths in Florida and in K-12 schools across the US, respectively."

Truly a criminal worthy of suppression by the State. /s

I hope that during the next election in Florida for governor she is in multiple commercials reminding Floridians that DeathSantis had her arrested for providing factual information on the coronavirus that he still practically denies exists.

Let no one forget he compared scientists to flat earthers.

2021-01-18 4:15:34 PM
The arrest warrant, obtained by NPR, alleges that Jones gained unauthorized access to state health department software on Nov. 10 and sent a mass text to employees reading, "It's time to speak up before another 17,000 people are dead. You know this is wrong. You don't have to be a part of this. Be a hero. Speak out before it's too late."

It said that the message caused "doubt and confusion" among the working groups that shared that planning account, and prompted information technology personnel to divert their attention to addressing a possible cyberattack. All told, the warrant said, some 30 employees had to stop their regular duties in order to address the incident.

Bullshiat. Everybody who read it just said "no shiat, Sherlock" and went back to work. The only folks who decided it was "cyberattack" were managers racing to cover their own arses by dumping on the whistleblower.

Scientists are human too and we can't automatically assume they're being perfect and truthful but I'd trust ANY scientist any day over government officials in Florida.

Tough call. She's obviously become an extremely special target for an extremely corrupt governor. But also, she's white.

I dunno, based on the state of the world, I think I'll be more surprised if she *doesn't* "commit suicide," "have an accident," or "die from Covid in jail," than I will if she "does."

2021-01-18 4:16:05 PM
Well...can't wait for the interrogatories on this one...

2021-01-18 4:16:07 PM
Perfect opportunity for Biden to #%%%ing squash some obvious GOP anti science anti truth bullshiat right off the bat.

Jump down the governors throat with both feet and make everyone in Florida and the rest of the country aware of what's going on. Make them take sides and make decisions on facts, not the lies they've been getting away with and believing.

DiSantis doesn't have the gnads to stand up to that.

Ehh but also Arizona has its own health department that handles that information separately from the feds, and it has its problems but also we haven't found evidence of it suppressing data, just doing a shiat job at doing public health.

The cases leveling off here was legit, because multiple sources - hospitals, labs, county health departments, etc. - all showed the leveling off and drop, and it came roughly a couple of weeks after the major cities instituted mask mandates.  It wasn't some conspiracy, it was actually turning the tide.

Also things are waaaaay worse here now through those same sources.

If the Walt Disney corporation doesn't yank DeSantis' chain immediately, it's safe to assume that they approve of the raid.

IDK, she does take selfies so, I'm kind of okay with it.

The only way that happens is if federal investigators manage to stumble on some evidence that shows that the numbers were in fact doctored in Trump's favor and that the governor was actively ignoring the plight of his constituents.

Then he could be charged like that guy in Michigan for the flint water supply. Criminal negligence causing death.

2021-01-18 4:23:42 PM
So after reading the complaint, it looks like they're going after her for

1) Accessing a DOH system and sending a message encouraging people to speak out.
2) Downloading a DOH file containing contact info of a large list of people (no PHI as far as I can tell).

Is that it?

Apparently she tested positive for COVID too.

2021-01-18 4:31:29 PM
Goddam Biden should get her to replace one of the Trump CDC appartchiks, preferably the one in charge of Florida, and make it clear to the gov that dropping charges will really be in his best interests in light of the upcoming FBI investigation into the incident he's about to announce.

2021-01-18 4:31:41 PM
Is there a list of Republicans who should be sent to rapey prison for abusing their powers?

Or is it easier now to just make a list of Republicans who DON'T abuse their powers?
