My dog cut her paw pretty bad on a rock while out at the deer lease and had a small limp. My buddy's wife showed up and she started limping much worse. Then we caught her limping with the wrong leg and realized she was playing it up for attention/sympathy with a woman around.

Lets hope horses don't try this trick. It could end very badly...

When I blew out my knee, my dog tried to pick up the pace and drag me off a mountain.  Hmmm...

Just further proof that dogs really are man's best friend.

My dog has this uncanny ability to get mildly pointy things betwixt her tootsies.  Spruce needles, burr, thorns, etc.  She is ever so grateful when I do.  But I've never caught her limping without a reason.

It might have been mocking his human, you don't know!

My parents had a cat that did that too. And the really funny thing is she'd only limp when she thought my dad was looking (he was definitely her favorite human).

Mine acts like I'm pulling his paw off when I gently brush the mildly pointy thing away. Sometimes it's already fallen off. And when he's been actually hurt, he's all, meh, let's keep going as I'm gasping in horror. Goofus.

/He's an adventurous dog and we've done some wild hikes. He's old now so they're easy strolls.

Not saying any of our mutts look like me, but they are all slightly overweight.

When our family dog Abby, a Westie, was getting old, she would lie down at the bottom of the stairs and look helpless.  This was her cue for someone to pick her up and carry her up the stairs. My mom was getting upset about it...her beloved dog was too old and tired to climb the stairs anymore.

Then one day we came home from somewhere and we saw Abby standing at the top of the staircase.  We knew she'd been downstairs when we left...we realized that she was perfectly capable of climbing the stairs on her own, but if she could get someone to carry her, why waste the energy?  She still pretended to be incapable of getting up the stairs for a while until she realized she'd been found out, and eventually she reluctantly started climbing them while we were around.

Before I was born, my parents had a beagle named Bebe. One night my parents were going out to dinner or something and Bebe was whining because he didn't want to be left alone. At some point as they were leaving, my mother stepped on Bebe's left front paw. He set up a howling and crying like he was being killed. Naturally my mom felt terrible and they stayed home and fussed over Bebe and his poor paw.

From that point on, every time my parents tried to leave the house together, Bebe would start to limp. Either front paw, didn't matter, he started to limp.

I think my parents made their parenting mistakes on that dog first :D
