Fark LIam Neeson and his shiatty movies.

I saw the preview and thinking about Liam Neeson and the jobs he takes I was reminded of this quote from Michael Caine about Jaws: The Revenge.

"I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."

If this movie isn't for you, fine. I don't know who you are and I don't know what you want. If you are looking for Oscar quality acting ability, I can tell you he doesn't have it, but what he does have are a very particular set of skills. Skills he has acquired over a very long career. Skills that make him a nightmare for people like you.

Saw it in the theatre. It was crap. A 25 minute episode of Weeds would have handled the subject material better or Mayans MC.

I thought he was cancelled?

If you want to see something that's got the plot of a Taken movie, but is actually good and was made for a fraction of the budget, check out Furie. It's still a dumb action movie, but it's a well made dumb action movie, with stuntwork that is solid, and when the budget is only $1M, I mean- we're talking Roger Corman money, but it is not a Roger Corman end product.

In these times if it gives someone a laugh, an eyeroll, or a couple of hours of mild entertainment, then I'm for it.

Bring on Sharknado 4, 5, 6, 7 , 8, etc

I was going to ask a trivia question, "How many Liam Neeson movies feature Neeson holding a firearm on the poster art", but after looking at about 50 movie posters in the last 5 years and realizing I had about 500 more movies to go, I gave up.

Point is, I guess, he's made a lot of movies with firearms.  And he's made a lot of movies.

Neeson committed the cardinal sin of actually believing that "open and honest discourse" actually means "open and honest discourse."

What an idiot.

I was out after the one where he hiked into the mountains to fistfight a wolf.

It was a little fun when old man Neeson did a couple of action movies.
Now it's just sad. The man is better than this.

I honestly feel like a part of him never came back from the head-space he went to after his wife died. You can almost map the change of substance in the projects following.

Or he just really appreciates a steady paycheck.

Is he, though?

Let's remember that the film most people first got to know him in was Darkman.

Is saw  Honest Thief last weekend.
The whole premise of film gets dismantled if he had just gone to the local FBI in person instead of trying to do the thing via phone.

The script probably had his character making that much money after a day's work. With planning, putting together money, etc. it's a total of eight hours of work to kill a rando.

Nah, these films are a great deal for him. They take a month or so to shoot, and he gets paid a few million plus points on the gross.

The problem with big budget movies is that they tie up months of your life with principle photography, reshoots, and the internal promotional tour. And with indy prestige movies, you often have to deal with directors who spend all day screaming at you and making you do 20 takes.

I'm sure Neeson looks at it this way: His reputation as a serious actor has been cemented through Schindler's List and a handful of other movies; now he gets to make $5 million or so a year (I assume) while maybe working 45 days on relatively easy shoots. Isn't that the dream?

He was farking great in Darkman, and Darkman remains one of the best superhero movies ever.

The Michael Caine comparison is unwarranted. Jaws 4 is a terrible movie in every conceivable way. Most of Neeson's "man on a mission" films are entertaining given their repetitive premises. The Commuter was a VG thriller. So was the one where he was a snow plow driver (Cold Pursuit). He's a fun action/thriller movie actor. I agree with the person upthread that he never got over Natasha Richardson's death. By all accounts, they was deliriously happy with each other. What better way to cope than to throw yourself into your work to stay busy. Taken 3 is a bad movie, I will grant you that. But in a way, Neeson is like an older Jason Statham, whose movies I usually enjoy, e.g.Safe The Mechanic, Transporter (even Transporter 3, to a degree, was fun). Even if the two actors have devolved into one trick ponies, who gives a shiat if they deliver mostly decent flicks.

Liam John Neeson OBE is an actor from Northern Ireland. He has been nominated for several awards, including an Academy Award for Best Actor, a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and three Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama. He is one of the highest grossing actors of all time.

I watch almost every one of these movies he does, and I feel really bad for the guy when I do. It started when his wife died, and you know he does all these just to keep working so he never has to stop moving and face the grief he probably still has every day.

Unless that figure is tabulated with only lead roles then it's kind of meaningless.

Yeaassh. No.

When I saw he was retiring, I thought he broke whatever curse he was under, making the same movie over and over until he gets it right.

I think he went into a work binge out of grief. It took him a really long time to get over it.

I dont mind his movies. Their just mindless fun. I dont take them serious. But after seeing on a few different pages on the net of pics of him pissing his pants it's almost impossible to watch him now. No ridicule and I feel for the old guy. But I catch myself having a hard time suspending belief that a good guy that pisses his pants regular is a bad ass.
