So upfront let me once again apologize for MTG. That being said I am very happy with our two new senators. Honestly the Perdue loss makes me chuckle because that one is the one that enraged Turtle. I think he knew Kelly was a lost cause but they would have a shot in two years so no big deal. The fact that they lost a full term of one of their say nothing but be a rubber stamp senators really pisses him off.

Ossoff doesn't have any kids. How are they gonna make an alliance w/o a marriage pact? If they really want to make this work, they should promise to have two sons marry each other. That way, we bring gay agenda into the fold of this great alliance. Then, we sign a treaty with Antifa. Chessmate.

The question is, who does a minority report to after their candidates cruise to victory? If they don't work together, that would be a dick move. But to claim some kind of precognition about alliances is going too far.

I guess reading into stuff is what these 'journalists' get paid for.

But really. Democrats...you want to win and win big. Just start putting up common sense candidates. Put up anyone who works within the same reality that most of us spend their day and you will post good wins.

It isn't so much a religious thing or minority thing or whatever label you want to put. (some more women would be nice just to balance out the universe though).

Just have normal, non-evil candidates with well thought out yet straightforward plans.  Your electoral problems will be solved.

Ossoff and Warnock might be the future, but Salon sure ain't. Is there a more vapid "political" or "left" website that manages to be neither?

2021-01-18 6:57:36 PM
No.  Each race has it's individual dynamic. There are broad trends but no.

Democrats need to stop trying to find the silver bullet and just try to win on their issues. Work every single race.

And for gods sake, give up on hypocrisy and just focus on the crimes and terrible policies that BS is covering up.  NOBODY CARES ABOUT GOP HYPOCRISY outside of comedians and pundits. REPUBLICANS sure as shiat don't care so it's all wasted effort.

So no, no magic coalition. Each race has to be won by actual effort in all 50 states and in every city and town.

While I tend to agree with you, bear in mind a not insignificant number of BLM voices, like Farrakhan, are very anti Semitic. I think this is a good thing, for these two groups. Frankly, it's exhausting getting the hate from Nazis and BLM.

You aren't wrong, but a common enemy sure does not hurt for uniting people.

If the Democrats aren't able to find someway to unite now, maybe there isn't any hope.

Let's ask God.

God, how can we find reasons to hope?

Here's my take on it as a GA resident:

Ossoff's victory was much more startling to the R's in GA than Warnock's was. They probably didn't mind Warnock winning all that much as long as Perdue pulled through - Warnock's term is only for 2 years until re-election, he was going against a weaker opponent, and they could try again in 2022. Perdue OTOH, had history in the state, was going against a newbie for the full six year term, and had beaten Ossoff in the November by 1.8%. The problem was twofold - he was campaigning with an unhinged Loeffler which dragged him down, and Ossoff got some critical blows in November and December on him. He should've kept his distance from KL and campaigned on bringing "balance" to the Senate in GA.

Your point on calling the GOP hypocrites is spot on: I've said time after time again that R's could give a shiat less about the appearance of being hypocritical, evil, bigoted, cruel, etc. They relish in having those traits and win elections based off of them - on account of "stigginit". Ossoff was smart in campaigning against Perdue - he attacked him for being a coward first and foremost. The one thing that R's will not abide by is the appearance of being weak, and he accomplished that goal.

There's a misconception that Farrakhan is somehow a dyed in the wool liberal, just because he's a Black Muslim. Sure, your average right winger would make that assumption based on his ethnicity and religion, but the NoI are generally a bunch of far right wingers on a lot of other topics. Farrakhan and co. probably think that BLM are a bunch of pussies who are selling out and are being manipulated by the "Jewish lobby".

I'm haunted by my Election Week vow to slather my entire body with cocoa butter to cause Ossoff and Warnock to win the runoffs. Since it obviously worked, I feel a little trapped by my success. What are my obligations in future elections? Will it only work in runoffs? Only in Georgia? Only regarding two candidates at once? Only once per election cycle?

While I used Farrakhan for name recognition, the anti Semitic element of BLM goes to its inception, where it was co-opted by the anti-Israel/pro-Palestinian movement.

Funny, I came here to say kind of the opposite.  Anti-Black racism is so mainstream in this country that racist Jews don't have to do much to be racist.  They don't really have to do anything at all, because that's how common racism is--it's merely American to be racist.  There are a handful of vocal Black antisemites, like Farrakhan, and they stand out.  There aren't a lot of vocal racist Jews, though, because they don't have to be--especially since Zionism is still so common, and that provides excellent cover for Jewish racism.

It's been chic to be antisemitic for centuries if not millennia. They're both baked in and a lot of it is unintentional to some degree. Tons deliberate too of course.

That being said, it isn't surprising that Jews have a long history of being civil rights allies. They are an out group with a high degree of education and some other forms of power. That doesn't make them magically better people or anything(tons of crappy Jews... just look at the voting population of Israel), but there's a bit of reason for them to form an alliance and they have something to offer. It is also a smaller subset of the population so there is something to gain for them creating the alliance.

As far as I've seen, the Black community is generally less hostile towards Jews than other white people. That doesn't mean everyone is warm and fuzzy, but there is some degree of acknowledgement that they have a marginally better historical race record in this country.

All of this is of course broad strokes that doesn't properly account for the massive amounts of variation within any group of people.

2021-01-18 10:09:11 PM
They won because they told Republicans to fark off. RADICAL LIBERAL RAPHAEL WARNOCK (maybe I heard that one on TV once or twice) pretty much slapped Loeffler upside the head with reality. Hell, I'd respect him more if he DID hit her. And Osoff dunked on Perdue constantly for being a coward and a failure.

You want to win? Sack up and tell the Republicans to piss up a rope. And hammer the ground game.

Georgia can flip the governor's seat in 2022 and the state legislature in 2024. It's very do-able, y'all. We're Virginia down here. And North Carolina is 15 years behind us.

I see, so our very existence is a source of Anti-Black racism?

Well then, I guess since you believe we're all Zionists and racists then I guess we're done proving my point.
