Espionage!   Now we're talking!    That's what the Rosenberg's went down for when they passed nuke secrets to the USSR, since they weren't a declared enemy.

Trump's cult is a foreign terrorist ideology.

It's amazing how stupid Republicans have been in the past 20 years.

2021: let's become terrorists and deliberately step on the world's largest landmine that we built ourselves while the entire internet watches.

Especially our enemies. His reign of terror and the ease at which he was able to radicalize millions of his own citizens against his own country is our enemies wet dream. They will most definitely take full advantage of what he's done and exploit the ever loving shiat out of it for decades to come. This entire time they thought they had to devise these grand schemes to attack us.

Nope.. Just appeal to the morons and feed them whatever information that best works for them

Not as defined by the constitution:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.

That's a very big "or". It does not require a declaration of war from Congress. And you could argue that a country that interfered in our last election is a de facto enemy.

Only a psychopathic, self-interested person, would knowingly expose other people to danger against their will, be it for money or any other reason.

When I was really young (4-5 years old), I heard about the concept of Russian illegals. For what seemed like several years, I had recurring dreams that I was out in public with my parents and had somehow slipped away from them, and suddenly was being pursued by a Russian male and female couple who were trying to kidnap me. They were incredibly persistent and impossible to shake. Sometimes they actually impersonated my parents by wearing similar clothes and hair.

Later on I had a more eerie one where I would see my mom in one part of the house, then go to another part, and encounter her again...and just try to avoid letting on that I knew one of them was the impostor, until I could figure out who it was. But whoever it was, I figured they had superhuman abilities so I'd better not make it obvious. And what would I do about it anyway? Farking Russians, man...they're everywhere.

Enemies in this particular usage is defined (at least by precedent) as those we are at war with - not anyone that could be considered an enemy.  They wanted that charge to be very limited and specific, and with good reason since it carried the death penalty.  They didn't want it to be an ultimate level bludgeon to beat down anyone the administration didn't like, as leaving "enemy" vague would allow charges of treason for just about any sort of espionage adjacent crapola.  Vaguely defined treason charges were a favorite trick of several of the old guard European monarchies - the framers of the Constitution very specifically separated espionage and treason and put the heavier burden on treason to shut that door.

When I saw that show, I immediately thought of it and then I was pretty much addicted to the whole thing from beginning to end.

Funny enough, the "Russians" were actually the couple from Hart 2 Hart. But I guess they could pass as Philip and Elizabeth too. I remember always trying to hide inside of a circular clothing rack and it never worked...those damned clotheshangers kept rattling and giving away my position.

It was many years before I ever met anyone from Russia in real life. Just normal people, turns out.

Why bother with turning over a physical device? Encrypt the contents, upload it to the cloud, then approach the Russians with the offer to sell.  If they pay, give them the account name and password.

Some folks have discussed foreign agents using the crowd for cover. I'd wager the FBI keeps close watch on all embassy employees. Facial recognition software could place them at the scene. Too risky. Activating sleeper agents is more likely, but I don't see Pelosi, Schumer, or any other high-level politician keeping highly classified info in their office. Take a short drive over to the FBI, CIA, DIA, or other security service and look at the info there. If you have a question about the info, people in the building can answer your questions right then and there. Security is going to be better at the agency than at your office in the Capital building.

No in the least. It is the direct, logical and inevitable consequence of fifty years of choices by American voters and American politicians. This isn't the Bible or a Marvel "universe" film. You don't get to blame nasty outsiders or baddies with superpowers when you collectively screw up.

It's interesting but depressing to see how firmly American exceptionalism is embedded in what passes for the left there.
