It's on Sunday, February 7, on CBS.
The playoffs are happening right now.

One person caught it, but they thought the Super Bowl was still in late January.

Like ... I'm sooooooo curious to see what kinda numbers the SB gets this year. I have a suspicion.

Well it's a nerd website, they aren't really into sports.

I forgot about "pending" in their comments. Still pending, weird.

Coke? Pepsi? What are these things? If they don't run ads during the Super Bowl, I'll never find out what they are!

Pepsi sponsors the halftime show. I'm sure they'll get mentioned.

Pretty sure Coke will air ads for one of its brands. 20 or more Simply X ads will do.

so it would probably be pretty bad optics to suddenly throw a bunch of money in the garbage

And that's the only reason for this decision.

I always found it curious that the corporations with the most money spent the most on advertising therefore making the cost of their product more. Especially products that everybody knows about.

The ota broadcasters recently moved the cbs antennae to a location so that I can't get a signal from it now.

I guess I have to dust off the hat.

It's almost like they have motives beyond letting people know wares are for sale.

Me ESL
Me play joke
Me put Pepsi in your Coke

I interpreted the phrasing as meaning they decided in November not to air ads.

2021-01-18 5:01:07 AM
From TFA:  "In a statement last week explaining the decision, Coca-Cola said it was a "difficult choice" and that it makes more sense to be "investing in the right resources during these unprecedented times." Coke spent $10 million on ads during last year's Big Game and recently announced that it will be laying off 2,200 employees because of various pandemic struggles, so it would probably be pretty bad optics to suddenly throw a bunch of money in the garbage just to remind people that freakin' Coca-Cola still exists. "

The fact that this is likely to be the lowest rated Superb Owl in decades has nothing to do with it, I'm sure.

Coca Cola seems to be struggling badly lately. I guess Covid/restaurant/theater closures means nobody is buying sugar water anymore.

Why would he want to kill you in public?
No, I think what she meant to say was he threatened, in public, to kill her.
Ooohhh.

If we all go out and buy a bunch of their stuff after the SB, can that totally crash the ad industry?

I couldn't have done better than "sometime in Winter".

I didn't know we hadn't already had one for this season.

RC Cola is pretty good, and Jolt, when you can find it (might be out of production currently).  Faygo is like... meh.I hear ICP fans love it though.

either way

there will be a shiat ton of ads and the stock owners will giggle on the way to the bank.

the only clowns who say that are the ones who own stock in the companies airing the ads.

they know it'll pay off next quarter.  beats working for a living.

you forgot the caffeine.  without that, sales would drop severely.

imagine that

Advertising is mostly Propaganda.

as Pepsi's CEO once said:  we sell Dreams, not soda.

the best part of the Stupid Bowl is not blowing 5,000 on a ticket.

Covid won't do it.

a giant meteor would be necessary and even then they'd hold it early to get the game in before life ends on earth.

The best part for me is drinking the host's beer and pretending I know WTF is going on.

my suspicion is same.  tickets start at 6000 and go up from there.

then again, if you attend the Stupid Bowl, you're already Corporate Murca's who's who and/or rich in the first place.

its easy spending money someone else worked for.

stock owners live off of Labor someone else does.

i like to bark at the TV like i care what is going on.  i'd go if someone paid for EVERYTHING, hotel, food, transportation.

outside of that, i have zero interest.  i'd go just to see the clowns blowing 10's of thousands on a football game.

course, 99.9% of them are rich/corporate sponsored so i'm sure i'd probably be bored at the game.

They had lost the Disneyland master beverage account a couple years ago, so it might have started before COVID.

Umm...what other "name brand" sodas are out there that get $2 a 20oz bottle even thought they sell in high volume?

I get some brands charging that much because they're a smaller niche.

But if you have large factories where you take advantage of poor people to produce your product, shouldn't you be able to sell it for a lot less?

If I was running Coca-Cola I would cut all advertisement, drop the price by half and just see how it goes.
