The opening salvo would herald a 10-day blitz of executive actions as Biden seeks to act swiftly to redirect the country in the wake of Donald Trump's presidency without waiting for Congress.

I can hear the Republican wailing already.

There's a conventional wisdom that you don't start out doing things that are bound to antagonize those who you will need to cooperate with you to help you press your agenda. Then again, at every turn Trump defied convention and conventional wisdom and these "rules" fell away in the dust.

No doubt the Right Wing will raise objections and cry tears but frankly if everything is done quickly I think the news cycle will be overwhelmed, and moreso as the impeachment trial gets going, and prosecutions for the insurrection take up oxygen. Thus, I think it's a good move. Do it quick, hit it hard.

Notabunny: I have this fantasy that Biden will make all federal elections vote-by-mail

Can't do that. The Constitution clearly specifies that individual State Legislatures control how elections are run within their own state. And this, it turns out, was a complication in enacting the voting rights act. What was needed was to invoke equal protection to ensure that the States were not doing things that specifically targeted some protected classes from disenfranchisement.

Forcing States to enable no fault universal mail in balloting is likely too specific a solution to fit within that cause as there are many ways to run elections fairly that don't specifically require mail in balloting.

Congress has some latitude to define the "time, place, and manner" of elections. They might not be able to get away with mandating mail-only voting, but something like a mandatory no-excuse mail option might work. They could also require things like same-day or even automatic registration.

I think everyone needs to do their part by being absolutely relentless toward Trumpers, former Trumpers, and stupid centrists. They all either ignored or openly supported a fascist threat to the country while dismissing and mocking the repeated warnings of those who were right. I don't mean be cruel to them, just state reality plainly. Only way peacefully forward is by acknowledging the wrong, apologizing, and correcting the behavior.

On the plus size, that means we can enjoy about 8-10 years were the economy ends up getting a little better for everyone (not just the stock market), human rights get a little better for minorities, and science/technology advances move along until we decide things aren't moving fast enough, elect the GOP to house, senate, Presidency and let them send us into a recession. I could use the break from bad things happening for awhile

FTA:"Incoming presidents traditionally move swiftly to sign an array of executive actions when they take office. Trump did the same, but he found many of his orders challenged and even rejected by courts.

Klain maintained that Biden should not suffer similar issues, saying "the legal theory behind them is well-founded and represents a restoration of an appropriate, constitutional role for the President.""

Helps when they're written by someone with competency and with more legal justification than "cause I wanna."

I think Uncle Joe may be a wee bit miffed at his predecessor.

Good.

You know that old friendly custom of an outgoing president leaving a letter to the incoming one giving encouragement and wisdom of the office?

I'm better it's 50/50 odds Trump leaves a turd on the desk or simply a half eaten hamberder with "STOP THE STEAL.. PLEASE?!" written in Sharpie on the wrapper.

You do realize the President is not a God-King, right?  Those are things that require laws.  You know, those things that require Congress to pass bills.  If you are going to whine about POTUS for those, I assume you are also whining about how Kagan hasn't balanced the federal budget also.

There could be one immediate fix that Congress can enact on Day 1 of the Biden Administration.

Congress is in charge of designating Federal Holidays. I don't know if they need a majority or a supermajority, but Congress has the power to declare Election Day a Federal Holiday, effectively giving the public the day off to vote. Voter suppression has been one of the big things the GOP has been focusing on in the past decade, and there's a consensus that having Election Day as a Federal Holiday would go a long way to reverse suppression efforts. Even if it takes a supermajority, I'm thinking it would pass; the GOP is in enough crap with the insurrection last week, they don't need any more bad PR.

First part of the fix involves firing literally everyone Trump installed who hasn't been burrowed into govt in a way that makes them impossible to remove.

Next is the legal charges.

Then working to restore integrity, morale and purpose into every department Trump corrupted, undermined or coerced.

Which is kind of all of them.

The article clearly mentioned at the very beginning that it was talking about things that he planned to do quickly since they do not require congressional action.

If you have some magical method of passing universal nationalized health care on 50 votes within the first 10 days, I'm sure Biden's administration would love to hear from you.  Otherwise, I'm not really understanding how this is a reasonable criticism or even relevant to the article.

It said first 100 days not 10. 3 months should be good enough for Nancy and Chucky to put a bill through both houses. It's not like they have to start from scratch. The article is laying out Biden's roadmap for the first 100 days, including bills that require full support of both houses of Congress, specifically mentioning the $1.5T Stimulus bill.

I consider single payer healthcare to be important enough to be considered at the same time as the Stimulus Bill.

Then push Biden on it. Send letters to your Congresscritters. Start rallying on it.

Democrats are going to have to stop using Trump and McConnell as excuses to not pass Single Payer, considering it is supported by a majority of voters.

Federal, not state. Biden can do it if the Senate will fund it. We probably wouldn't have a Republican President for a generation.
