If you think that was a John Wick-esque show, we either have vastly different (a) memories of the show, (b) memories of the movies, or (c) definitions of what John Wick-esque means.

A valid point, although let's be honest. All of us of an age old enough to remember that show knew, even then as we regularly watched it, that it sucked.

All the "concerned parents" thinking their kids will get sucked into D&D, and they made a cartoon about kids literally getting sucked into D&D.

I'm sure there is a Bulgarian rip-off of Conan the Destroyer, so it's already been done.

Seriously - they gave "He-Man" at least one and maybe two movies, and everybody knows Thundarr could kick He-Man's roid-ragin' butt.

You blow Uni away inside the first five minutes and I will stand up, run around the house cheering for at least an hour, then find you and give you the most mediocre five seconds of your life.

I saw that when I was about 12 years old on a hotel TV channel... like, a dozen times*. My brother and I thought it was hilarious since we played dnd.

/our house flooded and there wasn't much else to do in the hotel at first. It just became background noise.

Can we praise for a second to acknowledge that John Wick didn't deserve nearly the praise it gets? Like, it's a fun action movie, but it's not any better than at least a dozen other Kurosawa-inspired western action movies pretending to be Samurai epics. It's just a shinier Kill Bill, with a male protagonist and a dog. It's Kill Bill meets Air Bud. With nicer cinematography.

Yes, but we also watched Kidd Video because Gabrielle Rozzi was smokin' in the live action bits.

A coworker of mine from the before-times always had stupid "million dollar ideas".

One of these has been to make a D&D Reality TV Gameshow that he hasn't actually worked out in his head.

I'll have to send this to him and let him know that ship has sailed as well.  Sorry boss, Market's glutted now.

3 Things elevate John Wick, though probably not to the heights it has enjoyed.

1. The actual CRAFT in the film.  Things like color design, lighting, cinematography, wardrobe, set design, sound.  The fundamentals are not just there, they are *expertly* done across the board.
2. The overall simplicity of the plot, woven together with the complexity of the world building.  John Wick's story?  Almost cartoonish.  The mob and the hotel and the syndicate and all that?  There's a lot of meat there to keep the audience interested in what will happen next.
3.  Everybody loves Keanu Reeves.  Without exception.

Oh, and while not a reason it's so highly praised, it's worth mentioning how interesting it is to have a protagonist that is basically the killer from a horror movie, as far as the antagonists are concerned.  The only other property I can think of that leans THAT hard into "don't be scared for the hero.  be scared for his enemies" trope is flipping DOOM.

Disagree. The first one was great because it was so surprisingly entertaining. The dry, understated humor was funnier than most intentionally comedic movies.

After that, though, the shine wore off. Second and third movies were...meh at best. Mainly because they took it too seriously and abandoned the humor.

Well, and the work Keanu put in. The stunts and fights were amazing, especially given how much he did himself.
