It's list rock and metal albums

Wow, 2001 was a long time ago. It was also a heck of a year for rock and metal. Tons of killer albums came out in 2001; we've compiled 87 of 'em that rock and metal lovers of all stripes likely enjoyed - and still do! Indeed, it's almost hard to believe these releases all turn 20 this year.

Lacuna Coil, Rammstein, Stabbing Westward, even a Mudvayne album that I bought, but haven't listened to in a long time.

This was after I'd started buying my music digitally.

And with a (very) small handful of exceptions, I wouldn't give you a nickle for the bunch of 'em.

iTunes Music Store opened in January 2001, so yes.

I may have also messed around with Limewire a bit, but I was buying albums.

Slayer - God Hates Us All
Released Sept. 11, 2001

Well, yeah.

We also got this masterpiece -

Opeth - Blackwater Park
Released March 12, 2001

Can we just forget that Puddle of Mudd, Kid Rock, and Buckcherry were ever a thing?

i wish there was a frequent poster to tell us exactly what is and what is not metal.  I guess we'll never know.

Opeth - Blackwater Park is a goddamned masterpiece.  If you want to hear what "cookie monster" vocals sound like when done right, Mikael Akerfeldt is where to start.

Also, I don't consider myself a heavy metal gatekeeper but there are A LOT of albums listed that aren't metal.

Ah, some Tenacious D.. I tried the article on my phone the first time, and it crapped out before I could scroll all the way down.

Man.  That's a bunch of bad albums with even worse album covers.  The self-importance is strong.

Also there are some good albums in there.

The Thin Line Between Love and Hate

is a masterpiece. The last 2 minutes are just transcendent. And the drum sound... Christ the drum sound!!

Turned 20?  Hell, music went to shiat around '90.  Yeah, there has been good stuff released since then (Obsidian Tide FTW), but most of that list either sucked or I never heard of it.

Congratulations, you're old. List of 87 Rock/Metal albums turning 20

20? I'll remind you that Nevermind, Use Your Illusion (1 & 2), For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, Spiderland, Badmotorfinger, Ten, Out of Time, Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Tin Machine, Metallica, Achtung Baby, Trompe le Monde, and No More Tears all turn 30 this year.

Meanwhile, Nevermind turns 30 this year.  A whole lot of young whippersnappers are now legally allowed to tell even younger whippersnappers to get off their lawns.

There're some really good records on there (Blackwater Park, God Hates Us All, A Predator's Portrait, etc.) Plenty of crap, too. Also, today I learned that Dashboard is apparently "rock" - I thought it was just whiny pop. ::shrugs::

Wasn't expecting to feel old until I saw this one. Great band, saw them open for the Hives. Had a song in one of my skateboarding DVDs back in the day.

Listening to Momentary Lapse tonight.. lots of pretty keyboards, even if some of it reminded me of the music my old Sound Blaster card could make in the early 90's.  The last track, Sorrow, used to give me automatic goosebumps when it started.

I mean, Arch Enemy with Angela Gossow, Amon Amarth, Lacuna Coil and Dimmu Borgir were all putting out pretty solid stuff then.

All 4 of those are good records (though the production quality on The Crusher does leave much to be desired)
