From Wikipedia:  Cawthorn attended Patrick Henry College during the fall 2016 semester to study political science, but dropped out after earning mostly D grades. He said his grades were low primarily because his injuries had interfered with his ability to learn.[6]

REJECTED by U.S. Naval Academy.

He's a particularly odious little douchebag. When his first tweet after winning is "cry moar lib" it's obvious he's an odious little douchebag. He is nothing but Adam Lanza without an arsenal. Both emotionally broken boys with huge chip on their shoulders.

His office has blocked my number, so back to letter writing.

Yet another thing that would end a Democrat's career in utter disgrace (and it should), but will just be ignored or shrugged off for a Republican.

My daughter uses a wheelchair. One of the things that pisses her and us off the most is when people give wheelchair users a "pass" when they're acting like assholes.

Pussyfooting around wheelchair users and pretending like they can't be jerks like the rest of us is just ableism.

He's an asshole, and now he's an asshole who's stealing valour. fark him.

Just throwing that out there.

Wow what an amazing piece of crap, the only people that are worse are the ones that voted for him. The republicans really are just getting worse and worse, soon they will have people winning that show up their first session in a Nazi uniform just to own the libs. I have really lost count of how many of these pieces of garbage there are in office right now, that is the scary thing, usually him and illegal carry barbie would stand out but there are so many they just kind of all blend in.

so i wanted to know what caused the paralyzing car accident: it was a single car accident in which his friend "fell asleep at the wheel" coming home from spring break.

i also learned that before that his greatest accomplishment in life was being a baptist and a "perfect" chick-fil-a employee. really.

https://www.blueridgenow.com/article/NC/20140806/news/606028457/HT

he also "received a full Marine ROTC scholarship to N.C. State University, but has decided to take the year off to focus on rehabilitation."

wanna bet he was never actually awarded that scholarship?

Hopefully he lasts a single 2 year term and no more. Dems should be hammering his lies and pretend accolades in the next campaign. Gloves should be off in every race at this point.

FreakyBunny i couldnt agree more

many years ago i'm in line at the bank and some wheelchair dude just glides to the front of the line like that's how he rolls.

"dude" i told him "that wheelchair isn't a license to be an a**hole"

maybe some others in line were shocked, but fark that guy when I've been waiting ten minutes already

That's mindboggling.  He was an active duty sailor who made an honest mistake with his ribbons, and did an honorable suicide to atone for the gravity of the mistake.

Meanwhile, walts and republicans run around claiming to be soldiers and combat vets and base their political campaigns on it.

Yes.

If this guy actually attended the naval academy, he would be appointed the rank of midshipman and serve in active duty in that rank.

wait, is it now normal for high school students to go alone to other states for "spring break"? i thought that was a college-kid thing. i didn't even know under-18s could rent hotel rooms......

what parent lets their kid go drink, under age and unsupervised, on a beach for a week and just hopes everything will be fine?

Jesus Fark.  Not even just stolen valor.  Stolen valor specifically for the purpose of committing insurance fraud.

Imagine all the reasons to lie about military service.  I suspect most of the people we see online like that suffer from mental illness of some kind.  Either they don't recognize what they are doing as wrong (I've even seen one video where an older man looked legitimately confused as the young marine yelled at him), or they are just compulsive liars who thrive on the attention they get when they tell this particular lie.  I think most of the cases fall on that spectrum somewhere.  And then there's the free-seekers.  Maybe a free coffee at first.  Maybe a donut or a sandwich or a beer.  Those people know what they are doing and are doing it to take advantage of other people's generosity.

Then there's THIS asshole.

"I bet I could get a lot more money out of this accident if it 'turned out' that it 'ruined my military career'..."

CEO

What a coincidence! Me too. I used to be just a COO but I got bored with that and gave that position to the dog. Of course the wife, the previous CEO has appointed herself Queen so I'm still just taking orders. Surprised he didn't put down " I own a mansion and a yacht. "

Yes, they can serve in the airborne. Just the 101st though, not the 82nd.

I took a tour of the Naval Academy years ago when I was visiting Annapolis. Very interesting place. Cool tour.

I guess that means I can add it to my resume now. Republican Logic.

Some people better themselves after a life changing accident as they find a new sense of humility. Others apparently use it as flex seal to distract from all the shiatty aspects of their life.

Not into jobs that people would steal valor over, but yes.  Or... at least they accept people with physical handicaps.  I don't know about paraplegia specifically.  But I know of a one armed man who served in naval intelligence for some time.  Don't necessarily need all your extremities to know enemy capabilities or deployments.  Just that one up top.

Do they make it a habit?  No.  But they also aren't beating back hordes of wheelchair-bound applicants, so it's kind of moot.
