No Alan Rickman, and Tim Allen is a Trumper.  Might as well recast Sigourney Weaver's character with Roseanne Barr and be done with it.

No Rickman, and it never needed a sequel.

Also Tim Allen is an insufferable douche.

No more cash grabs for the toolman.

I'd rather watch a reboot of Home Improvement where his wife, his kids, and all his friends have abandoned him because he's become a rabid Trumper.

It'll just be a single short season, in which he destroys one room in his house every episode and blames it on the stupid libs. He can't get anyone to help him fix it because of what an asshole he's become, so he uses TRUMP 2020 signs to paper over all the damage.

The finale is a two-parter, where he straps on his tool belt and storms the Capitol. At one point, he rushes a cop, and the scene goes black. A single gunshot rings out. Cue title card: "TO BE CONTINUED".

Then he wakes up in the hospital, having lost a leg. The medical staff is efficient, but unfriendly. All day long he hears how one of his sponsors after another has announced a boycott of his show. His producer comes and fires him. Cut to an exterior shot of his house, which collapses, since it consisted of approx. 80% Trump signs by this point.

Suddenly, Wilson's ghost appears and defecates loudly on the pile of debris and Trump signs. The camera zooms on his back as he slowly turns around. He has a huge smile on his gentle face.

Fade to black.

Fin.

So it's a 'buddy movie' with Mel Gibson! Hunh? Right?

It was done in 1.

Sequel should be Tim Allen jacking off to reruns of Pamela Anderson or Louis Anderson, whichever does the trick for that horrible person.

2021-01-16 6:31:10 AM
We come to the Earth that has been seeded with all the tech the alien fans had. Tim's character has become a recluse, but comes out to visit the first human built galaxy class ship. He turns up in a loose track suit, long hair. While on the test flight, the ship gets hijacked and lost in space. Security people regain the ship and he cleans up, takes up the captains post. We visit an alien world, some younger characters go on an adventure to find the crystal used as fuel, then while they're pinned down by fire Tim shows up with backup and shoots the leader of the other side. Tim gets a crystal shard stabbed into him, and has a dramatic death before the remaining crew get the backup shuttle. "Never give up, never surrender! *cough* This is where I cover your return. It's not a retreat, you must complete the mission and get everyone... well, almost everyone, home!"

Came to say something along those lines. The movie stands alone. It was a good homage both to TV and to fans.

It wasn't really made to have a sequel I don't think, I can't think of a premise that wouldn't seem contrived. But I'd see it. Again, 15 years and an Alan Rickman ago.

Simple, they have to steal the Genesis machine to bring back Alan Rickman.

Wasn't "Galaxy Quest" named one of the five perfect films ever made? Leave it by itself. It stands alone.

Guy I worked with years ago (sales director) was possibly the dumbest douchebro you could ever hope to meet. He set up the scrolling marquis screen saver on his computer to read (in all caps, mind you) "FAILURE IS NOT OPTIONAL!"

Dude cooked a 2-year old Porsche because he never shifted above second. One day, he struggled to get his ample belly out and tore the seat of his too-tight trousers out. I called him Tony Rippapant after that. Yes, to his face.

God, he was comedy magic.

I legitimately get verklempt every time Alan Rickman does the "By Grabthar's Hammer, you will be AVENGED!" during the climax.

It was so obvious that she mouthed the word "fark". They must have also cut out some reference to Chen having a drug problem because he was clearly stoned through the first half. They just had to get that PG. Nowadays the only PG movies are cartoons. Even Star Wars went PG-13.

Well I think even Tim Allen said that there was no way they could do a sequel without Alan Rickman.  But the fact that they're trying is interesting.

Honestly, I want to see the director's cut of Galaxy Quest.  I mean, if it was awesome at PG, imagine what it would be in its original form.

I hear P.J. Goebbels made quite a few films too.  I wonder if his political leanings matter in their social acceptance.

I'm sure that Hollywood has had worse ideas than this, but I can't think of them right now.

This is the kind of example of how dumb people be.

can't let a good thing be what ti is and be done with it as it is, cause that is exactly what it was and to expand on it would actually undermine what's great about it.

Some stories work because that's all they are, and if you kept trying to dig deeper into a "world" where what we are doing is normal reality you'd end up in your own ass hole of shiat ideas. You wind up being a fan-fic writer, which yeah might land you a major Hollywood script deal these days, but you'll still really just be a fan-fic writer in the end.

2021-01-16 12:09:50 PM
I wish instead of doing unneeded sequels they would do something like was done in the 30s-50s.  They'd get the same cast and crew signed for several films that would not really be related except for tone.  That way we could get good movies that are different.

The Matrix is a good example of this. Despite the open ended nature of the ending, it wasn't written with sequels mind, it couldn't have. It ended with too many logistical questions.

What about ew characters created in their world and Allen and crew pop in here and there because as the OG team they are overseeing things. Kind of like what they did with Limitless. Which was a damn good show, so upset it got tanked.

Pants full of macaroni!!: No movie needs a sequel that badly.

You're right, of course, but no movie has ever been "needed" at all. It drives me nuts when people say "we don't need another..." or that a movie is unnecessary." Thinking any movie is or has ever been necessary is a weird pop culture confirmation bias for one's own experience. Many people have never seen Galaxy Quest and are doing just fine, despite its "necessity."

You've got to help me out with this one.

Tom Arnold is a big fat gross ugly man.

What makes you think any attractive woman would willingly sleep with him?  Why are you acting like Roseanne isn't a catch for a big fat gross ugly man?

Michael J Faux: Thinking any movie is or has ever been necessary is a weird pop culture confirmation bias for one's own experience

I would argue that it's just a quirk of colloquial language. "Necessary" here is used as a stand-in for "justified" or more accurately "with clear teleological purpose". What people are trying to communicate is that they understand the artistic reason why the movie was made, but don't understand why anyone would return to that well. We don't really have a good way of discussing these kinds of things in casual speech, and English tends to overload words with a variety of meanings, which is why understanding the context one is speaking in becomes vitally important.

Agreed.

The supporting cast is what made the movie. Taggert is the least interesting character in the film. Weaver, Rickman, and Rockwell owned the film.
