Well Duh - Their star attraction isn't calling in every other day. And I bet the powers that be have decreed the talent better not keep repeating baseless lies about the stolen election. Dominion aint messin around mofos.

They should just lie about it.  Say they still have the top ratings.

Who is going to argue?  Or care?

Please. Fox news viewers think they arent extreme enough and are going to newsmax, oan and stormfront.

While I'm glad that FOX is getting squeezed out of the market because the left won't watch them, I'm less thrilled that they're getting squeezed because they're not crazy *enough*

Like, I'm not convinced that's actually any better.

Maybe we get the best of both worlds, the crowd all flees to OOAN, Newsmaxxx and the rest, and then those networks get sued into oblivion and offlined from things like Dominion lawsuits, just leaving the crazies out in the lurch with only FWD: FWD: FWD: to communicate their nonsense with.

We just installed a new Roku today (giving the previous one to Mrs. Nuisance's parents), and while checking out channels we stopped on Fox News for a few minutes, just to see their take on things.  With all of the destruction of the Union crashing about our ears, what was the topic of impassioned, intense discussion with the expert guest?

The Steele Dossier.

I shiat you not.

This is not good.  It's not righties seeing the light and moving left, or Fox going under.  It just means the fringe Fox viewership is moving further right.

It is terrifying that they got a SHRED of decency and legitimacy by acknowledging reality and supporting democracy and as a result they lost all their viewers.

They are gonna double the fark down very soon. Expect mass destruction of their news bureau who dared to oppose the orange fuhrer.

The only danger to Fox's ratings is the risk of Trumpists switching to more extreme arms of the neo-RTLM network.

Fox has been successful for two very obvious reasons: a demographic that skews old, meaning: cable tv viewers. Most people my age and younger use the internet for our news and entertainment needs. Secondly, they are usually the defacto channel in many rural bars, banks, office waiting rooms, etc.

Under founder Roger Ailes, Fox News didn't just create programming for a long-ignored conservative audience, the network also pioneered an infectiously entertaining brand of infotainment that blurred the lines between opinionated analysis and fact-based reporting. It was opinion-based entertainment packaged as news, and it was so successful that many shows on MSNBC and even CNN have followed the formula.

In a just and logical world, that Board would be dragged out into the street and executed.

Um this. Totally this.

This is literally an example of the common statement that when  people cannot assert their beliefs through democratic means, they do not give up on their beliefs they give up on democracy.

I am so farking despondent over the fact that when I was young and the internet was being born, and I was on BBS's and playing MUDs, my friends and I dreamed of a time when information would be disseminated universally. FTFA: "Fox has been long dismissed by many in the media biz as a network for tinfoil hat-wearing conspiracy theorists."

Yeah. So? There are a lot of tinfoil hat-wearing conspiracy theorists in America. Many of them created by Fox Newspeak. It's a feedback loop of derp.

It may simply be that given the events of the last 10 days, people want to see news about it. FOX is still pretending isn't happening or is no big deal. So you want to see footage of the terrorists invading the capitol, you gotta change the channel.

I'll believe it when Fox News is cold on a slab. Until then, it needs to be double tapped in the back of the head every chance we get.

You're not alone in this.  My younger self kept thinking, "once everybody has access to the collected works of Humanity, and can see verified facts instantly, they'll adjust their world-views and we'll all be better for it.  No more of this 'but I heard from my cousin, who heard from his boss, that blah blah...'"

I was always curious and hungry for knowledge, so I assumed everyone else would be too - given the opportunity.  Little did I know I had a giant, flashing neon sign above my head that spelled "FARKING DUMBASS!!!"

Now we've got people swinging the other way, who have seen exactly what Humanity is here in America, and yet believe that "if we just do X, then they will come around to Y."

So much neon going around, it's amazing there is any ozone left.

I think the internet/mass media generally amplifies the stupid that was always there. Back in the day you could be fairly insulated, provided the people in your daily life were not totally insane. But we don't like boring, so the crazies and the weirdos really do it up online: not only can they be as stupid as they want online, but they might even get a little 15 minutes action from their crazy sayings and doings. I would guess most people living on earth in 1820 were dumb, same for 1920, and so on. We just have the internet to showcase it 24/7.

It's social media.  It has to be regulated.  Twitter bears a HUGE burden of responsibility for what's happened.  Same with Facebook.

My conservative, Qanon, conspiracy theory ridden relatives do not watch Fox news regularly. They get all of their misinformation from Facebook, Twitter, and first hand from their equally twisted friends. Fox news is not the only game in town for kooks anymore.

The internet also creates and amplifies ignorance at a pace never imagined by the founders, or even anyone 30-40 years ago.  There isn't even really any sci-fi from pre-internet days that has the instant and fleeting pseudofact-cycling phenomenon we see now with social media.

Our current system has not caught up with the pace of information, or DISinformation. That's the #1 problem.

Moderates on the right are tuning out, not people on the left.  They don't have the stomach for where the perpetual rage machine is going and they're tuning out.

I guess it is no different than any other junkie who becomes numb to their drug or vice of choice.  Some people just have to keep pushing the limit until somebody gets hurt.

Neither are ever going to be powerhouse channels like Fox News was, they cater to the craziest of the crazy, it's a niche market that doesn't scream growth.

No arguments here, on the dumb part.  I used to believe that the stupidity was due to lack of information, as well as lack of *access* to good-quality information.  I had this belief, because I grew up in Bumblefark, Oregon where the only source of anything was radio, church, or the library.  You could maybe drive over an hour to Portland and visit Powell's, but rural peeps be broke AF, even when gas was $0.50/gal.  CERTAINLY people would let go of their bullshiat once they can see outside their ignorant bubbles, right?!  Yeah.  Totes.

lordjupiter: It's social media. It has to be regulated. Twitter bears a HUGE burden of responsibility for what's happened. Same with Facebook.

It's definitely culpable, but not the full source.  Targeted disinformation campaigns that used to be limited to AM radio, fringe magazines, and newly-created Cable News were to blame for initially poisoning the well.  Social Media simply improved reach and magnification.

When they completely avoid the major news of the month out of embarrassment, some of their viewership turn to other sources to get it.
