No, that's "their" money that they paid taxes for. Socialism is when other people get stuff for free.

It's simple: "Socialism" means "bad" and "Communism" means evil.

"Keep government out of my medicare!"

If these clowns EVER gained enough self-awareness, you'd see a mass-suicide event that would make Jonestown look like an accidental asprin overdose.  And it would all be by facepalm.

"a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole."

The only people worried about that are big businesses. I don't know of that ever being proposed within the United States.

Thanks to Kurt Bardella for calling out one of the biggest obstacles to bipartisanship - the Republicans tarring everything the Democrats support as "radical" and "socialist."

I'm pretty sure this has been the same problem for over a hundred years.

Julius Caesar's rival and Roman bigwig Pompey made his money by having the only professional fire department in Rome. The fire crew would go to a burning house, and negotiate payment with the owner before putting out the blaze.

In 1800s New York, the crew who controlled the hydrant controlled the fire. Rival crews would send a "barrel man" running through the streets ahead of the horse drawn fire truck, to put a barrel over the hydrant and fight off other crews. Buildings burned to the ground while firefighters fought in the street over control of the water.

But we can do that again if people really hate socialism.

Socialism means democracy in the workplace as well as outside of it.

Most people don't know or understand that.

As a 'radical leftist' I don't want pure socialism, but I do want robust social programs like Med4All and I'm on board with UBI. For the latter, not because "I want to pay people not to work" (hurr durr) but in a country where a baker's dozen of people hoarding half the wealth we need money exchanging hands more often and more rapidly to keep the economy going. And maybe desperate people being able to have hot meals every day isn't the worst thing. Especially when guillotines aren't as hard to make as previously thought.

Robust programs are not happening because we somehow don't want the rich being inconvenienced with having to pay a cover charge for the VIP Lounge that is America. Instead we have ('all this' gesture).

I chuckle at that, but if you try it irl the anti-socialism morans will just claim those countries all suck and everyone there is a disgruntled right winger who hates taxes, or like such as.

Socialism is in the Constitution. The mail. Other countries have private mail, so it is not required for a government.

Fun Fact: Our company has seen record sales, revenue and profit in 2020 (especially after those checks kept rolling out), so now we have hired back everybody that was laid off in April, and are in a major hiring spree to handle all the new business.

The guaranteed checks literally created jobs.

The founders likely listed the goals in order of importance.

1- form a more perfect Union.
2- establish Justice.
3- insure domestic Tranquility.
4- provide for the common defense.
5- promote the general Welfare.
6- secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.

We are certainly not funding these by priority. Five out of six have fallen by the wayside.

All of them have.America spends shiatloads on its military, true, but a lot of it is wasted on massive, over-budget, under-performing boondoggles that are primarily designed to use parts from as many states and districts as possible so Congresscritters can run on "supporting the troops".

Then we under-equip the actual troops and send them to die in wars that had no business being started in the first place, and the one farking thing we did that actually made America safer post-9/11 was requiring airliners to lock their farking cockpit doors.

oa330_man: No, that's "their" money that they paid taxes for. Socialism is when other people get stuff for free.

I've noticed that a lot of people that throw out the "Sozchulizms" argument seem to have this idea that
their VAST personal payment of taxes funds EVERYTHING...I had an ongoing internet argument with such
a fool for a while..The guy was just SURE that the HUGE sums he was paying gave him, personally, the right
to decide how every cent was spent. And that didn't, of course, include "those people" getting "free stuff"..
And I constantly reminded him that what he pays doesn't cover anything fully..And "He" isn't paying for "free stuff" for anyone.. Their personal little crusades about high taxes are just incredibly pathetic, racist and selfish.. It always boils down to, "those people" getting "free stuff"..ALWAYS..

Don't worry, the average American doesn't understand what capitalism is either, or that there are any alternatives to it aside from communism.

Only in America are these things considered radical and socialist.  Besides, if these programs in some form exist throughout the industrialized world how can they be considered radical? All the talk by Republicans of Socialist and Marxist Democrats is just total BS used to frighten their ignorant supporters.
