It looks like they got halfway through building it and gave up.

Keep that thing away from me or I'll try to ride it.  I gave that up.

They always try and look too futuristic.....and yet not quite enough at the same time.

Either give me the light cycle or make a cool cruising around town version of Steve McQueen's bike from the Great Escape.

Let me put some panels on the side of that big hole so it's usable storage space and some proper tiedown points for tail bags and I'd be happy for a 5 grand motorcycle. I don't like to do long-distance rides on my current bike anyway so I could live with this.

Was thinking the same thing.  Seems like wasted space that will increase drag.  If you want commuters, make that space usable.  I really want to go electric with my next car and that looks ideal.

I was thinking the same thing - the empty spot where the gas tank would be could either be used for additional batteries (I do go on longer distance rides from time to time) or a lockable storage compartment (you could fit a full face helmet in that much space), particularly if this is supposed to be a commuter.

I'd also like a seat that could handle a passenger and some provisions for panniers, which I'll pay extra to put on.

Anything that increases the supply of organs for transplant is a good thing.

It's pretty. If it becomes popular, even if the OEM doesn't, someone will come up with a way to put storage in that cavity.

$5k is stupid cheap for that. Even new Honda Groms are close to $3.5k and the Monkey and Super Cubs are around $4k too, and that's before BS dealer fees.

I wan' one. My work has charging infrastructure. It'd make a nice commuter for me, then I can convert the Street Triple into a track bike.

I like it. If they really can make something that light with that kinda range? Sign me up. Be perfect for a lot of little scoots around town.

Anyone need an RSV4 Factory?

OK, but how many years does the battery put out full wattage? Two? What does it cost to replace? Two grand? I'll hold onto my 750 a while longer.

Ooohhh... It comes in black and white in addition to the silver.

Looks like WP on the front fork. That's an expensive piece. Michelin Road 5 tires. Hand actuated rear brake. Would be nice to have a foot actuated one. Lets hope they keep the front brake on the right with the throttle tube. I road my friend's electric bicycle and forgot that bicycles usually have the front brake on the left. It as an.. uhh.. interesting moment.

WP is solid stuff even if they had to uh... consolidate their name. the suspension on my KTM Duke is top notch.

That seat looks like a testicle mallet if you rode over rough pavement or hit a pothole.

Looks like it folds into a briefcase.   Maybe it's for Incels?   No passenger seat, and what seat there is will probably leave you impotent.

Yeeesh.  I would hope they would use motorcycle controls, or at least offer it in two configurations.  That would be a deal breaker to me, I think.

Otherwise, awesome.  Replace the SV650/HondaHawk -style bikes, no problem.  Wouldn't work for a long highway commute, but those are rarer than urban combat riders.

Very cool.  $5k is almost a no-brainer if you're commuting in a city/suburbs. Hell, a 20-30 mile range is also sufficient for a *cough* "brisk" *cough* weekend ride if you live among nice roads and just want to go out for a few minutes to start the day.

Here's hoping it actually survives to production.  I'm betting the saddle, open body, and spendy bits might be demo only, but we'll see.

Now somebody do the LONG OVERDUE $20k-basic-electric-roadster, please.

I'm looking at this thing and thinking there's no way they can produce it for $5k with the same fit and finish as shown in the pictures. The aluminum swingarm and main frame looks really complicated to machine, so it's probably a casting that will crack at those sharp corners. The brakes are a weird choice as a Brembo sub-brand. Nissin 2 pots would have been fine and probably cheaper.  The adjustable compression and rebound WP suspension is too expensive and likely overkill on a 200 lbs bike that only goes 80 mph and isn't going to be canyon carving. Even Honda uses non-adjustable or pre-load only on Groms and little things like the CB300, and they sell like 10,000 of those a year.

I'll wait until a few reviews come out before plunking down some money. Or find one second hand in a few years after some rich bro douche kid gets one on Christmas and only rides it twice because it doesn't have as much power as the gixxer he wanted.

It's basically just a blank frame. With the right bodykit you could make it look like any motorcycle, almost.

Spot on. There's no way they can sell this for $5k. No way. And I agree with your technical evaluation too. It's all overkill for a light, slow, commuter bike.

Better yet, fit the running gear to an existing lightweight bike frame. I was going to speculate on something like this for a Honda CB300 chassis or similar, but it seems I'm late to the party:
https://www.cycleworld.com/story/bikes/honda-cb-electric-preview/

This has the bonus over the bike in TFA of not putting the motor in the hub (that's a lot of unsprung weight to bounce around on the roads around me).

Of course, no statement on release date or price...

2021-01-15 2:29:05 PM
Oh good...

Let's put the motor in the rear hub, because if there's one thing that makes suspension work well it's a large amount of unsprung mass hanging off the bottom of the shock for the damper to contend with.

That is exactly what I want.

Right now I drive 9KM, park outside of the suburb, then ride an electric scooter the last 1KM.

NZ motorcycle annual registration is insane, so I don't even bother registering my 1300cc, which also means I don't really ride it, but under 600cc is...reasonable?

It's nowhere near as bad, anyway.

But I don't want the hassle of yet another fuel vehicle.

I'd "ride" with her.
