Everyone and his brother are creating a podcast. But just like all other media, 90% of podcasts, movies, TV shows, songs, and Fark headline submissions suck.

Podcasts are the new blogs.

I once thought about subscribing to their premium service but there is exactly one website that I subscribe to the premium service on and I'm not allowed to do any more. Sorry.

A consequence of celebrities not being able to get the attention they require during the pandemic.

It's funny - the "make your own content" bandwagon was all hyped up because Netflix had a few early hits, but their offering has really gone to shiat in the last couple of years. Good shows went on too long and fell apart and were replaced by lesser series. Everyone trying to mimic them has fallen into the same trap. Spotify trying to do the same with podcasts was just the latest asinine incarnation.

Black mirror, peaky blinders, house of cards all were great out of the gate but later seasons lagged so far behind.

Now I wish there actually was a "not Netflix original" option when I'm scrolling through..great for stand up comedy though, damn g.o.at for that

Well it is giving us some variety that consolidation of radio stations took away.

And a place to talk about stuff that's not sports and right wing politics.

Indeed, nothing should be allowed to exist if it's not making money.

one of my favorites ended this summer.  Linear Digressions.

They thought they would be in the "3 months of putzing around" group and then move on to something else.   The hosts joked how when they started it, they had no idea it would go on for five more years.

Another one just closed up shop, Listen Money Matters.  Was good until one host left, and the others on their own were just terrible.

"It also spent what's likely millions gaining the exclusive rights to stream celebrity podcasts, including those from Joe Rogan, Kim Kardashian West, Michelle Obama, and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex."

What do these 'Premium' celebrities have in common?

They're not Howard Stern.

NEW YORK (AP) - Howard Stern has reached a five-year deal with SiriusXM to continue making his show for the satellite radio company through the end of 2025.
