Oh, they're safe. What great news. That's what was stopping me from eating them.

I've eaten crickets, mealworms, and ants. The crickets were pretty tasty (fried with honey). The mealworms just added a bit of crunch to the food, and the ants were barely noticeable.

Why do Hollywood think maggots and meal worms are interchangeable?

wish I'd ever had a chance to try any of the fried ones, but there's nothing locally, and amazon charges stupid premiums ($25/oz for ants!!! $2/oz for crickets) for tiny, tiny bags, so... :(

I have had the cricket-flour energy bars, which... taste like regular energy bars?

unbelievable that the British market demands these, but not the US -

To each their own, but if I had to I'd rather just go vegetarian than eat insects.  Their mere presence disgusts me and ruins my apatite and at 37 I'm to set in my ways to get over that one.

On the plus side, it probably won't be necessary in my location within my lifetime.  If all the worst case scenarios about global warming, overpopulation and food shortages come true... the Midwest will probably be the last place serving beef.

Commercial coming soon to a TV near you:

La cucaracha! La cucaracha!
with a little salt and spice!
La cucaracha! La cucaracha!
Eating them is very nice!

I've eaten Mint Chocolate Crickets once.  I didn't know I was about to though.
My kids said "Open your mouth, and close your eyes" and put a Mint Chocolate Cricket in my mouth.

Crunched on it, and I swore it was just a little piece of Mint Chocolate Rice Krispie Treat.  It had a very similar texture.  Didn't taste anything buglike at all.  I'd eat them again, but the revulsion factor is kind a high.

Yeah, count me out. I already don't like the flavor of most meat unless it's so heavily-spiced you can barely taste it, or breaded and fried (same reason). Plus it's a PITA to cook with compared to plants, and expensive. Doesn't keep as well as many plant-based options. Meh.

Bugs? That's a no from me, dog. I'll just finally go fully vegetarian I guess, if it comes to that.

/ Wish I'd grown up eating sea food so I'd like it, since it's generally pretty good for you.
// Best I can do is choke down a fair amount to be polite.
/// Except sushi and heavily breaded-and-fried crap. That's great.
\/ Fried calamari FTW
