Most of the story is paywalled, but I'm guessing Cheetolini had a brownfield or Superfund site to dump, so he called it a state park and walked away?

IDK, just a guess...

He couldn't develop land as it was protected so he "gifted" it back to the state and wrote off its value at exponentially more than it was actually worth and assessed at.  It's a travesty he wasn't tossed into the clink for it.  Yet another sleazy scam by a colossal scumbag. He purchased it at $2 million and claimed it was worth over ten times that on his returns.

I bet this is one of the tax scams the New York AG is looking into. He bought the land for 2 million in 1998 and donated it in 2006, claiming it was worth 100 million when he took the deduction. Increased in value 50X in 8 years?

When they were unable to turn it into a park, he graciously offered to take back the "worthless" land.

Nothing is does is above board.

came here to post this, tyty.

it's a failed golf course development that he donated to NY state, drastically and fraudulently overstating the value of the land (as one does) - and demanded his name be put on every sign.

also something something asbestos.

/what the fark, Subs?

IIRC Trump purchased former industrial land on the cheap and hoped that nobody would test the soil.
They did, so he "donated" it for a write off.

How did this "undeveloped" property end up with a tennis court and swimming pool? (abandoned now if the pictures from the link are accurate)

I would have left his name on the carousel

Totally in line with Trumpism: make something fake and lie about it when people ask. "Yeah, I've got a park. Best park in the world. Most beautiful."

It's all about image with Trump. No substance. Everything he owns/makes has to have the appearance that it's something good, beautiful, etc. while actually being nothing at all.

I know he isn't known for subtlety but dude, tax fraud

If anyone was wondering about an appropriate site for Trump's final resting place....

Burial at sea.  Kinda.

When Donald Trump loses everything he owns, his golf courses should all be reforested and turned into public parks.

Not radioactive, just asbestos.
That sums Trump up.

I'm still trying to figure out how undeveloped land ended up with a house, pool and tennis court on it.

So.... was this an actual "park" at some point? Like a theme park? The thread makes it sound like Trump bought some forest land for $2 million, did nothing with it, and then donated it at an inflated value of $100 million. While that totally sounds like something Trump would do, I'm curious as to why there appears to have been something attempted there at some point.

2021-01-14 11:11:13 PM
I believe part of the deal was that no matter what, a big sign with "Donald J Trump State Park" on it has to be on the freeway. So thousands of people can get flipped off every single day of the year by Donald Trump.

ugh, he**s literally, actually, said that in the past, too...

Trump**: My net worth fluctuates, and it goes up and down with the markets and with attitudes and with feelings, even my own feelings, but I try.
Ceresney: Let me just understand that a little. You said your net worth goes up and down based upon your own feelings?
Trump**: Yes, even my own feelings, as to where the world is, where the world is going, and that can change rapidly from day to day ...
Ceresney: When you publicly state a net worth number, what do you base that number on?
Trump**: I would say it's my general attitude at the time that the question may be asked. And as I say, it varies.

I'll be happy when they take down the "No Stopping" signs on the 2 mile stretch of I-78 that runs adjacent to his Golf course/residence in New Jersey. Interstate highways need a legally functional breakdown lane, and the fear that someone might scale the 20 foot concrete sound barrier that separates the public highway from his precious resort has shut this one down.

/ If they could replace those signs with a trash bag catapult I'd be ecstatic.
