Gawd - I hate the farking term "social media influencer."

Why not call it what it really is.  Jackass who gets idiots who are too stupid to rub two brain cells together to do what they do - and get paid for it.  It's the modern day equivalent of "If Johnny jumped into a woodchipper, would you?"  "Yeah, because Johnny is cool and has lots of friends.  Here is my lunch money for letting me walk behind you on the way to school."

Not sure what our end game is now. Permanent lockdowns? Personally, I love the idea. No more movie theatres, no more sporting events, no more concerts. No more churches, no more large gatherings of any kind. It's like an introverts dream!

DNRTFA, but considering the 1918 Influenza intermingled with other strains of the flu and is still with us today, I just assume this novel coronavirus will now be another virus that will be with us, with ebbs and flows of severity, forever.

The stupid covid partie are why curfews work.  When things started getting bad they had a hard lockdown and there was an 8 pm curfew.

After that, the major spread was happening by religious families that lived multi-generation in a house.  The younger ones would be visiting friends at similar houses later at night resulting in a web of spreading. The curfew put an end to that.

The local RWNJs were convinced it was A-rabs but it it turns our that it seemed to be limited to Abrahamic religions and buddhists if they want to blame a religion. The older spreaders would spread it to people the next block over.  The 18 yr old were spreading it to the other side of town.  The demographics tended to be the young spreaders were born here and the parents/grand parents were refugees. The was some problems with the older population language issues when trying to get the message out.

Religion ain't got nothing to do with it. LA farked up by reopening the bars and restaurants over the summer.

If you look at LA county's covid dashboard, you can see that the zip codes with the highest positivity rates are the poorer neighborhoods. Regardless of religion, those neighborhoods have more multigenerational households and more people of color. Those people typically work in jobs with much higher exposure risk. Walmart, the supermarket, the gas station, etc. Essential jobs. Again, religion ain't got nothing to do with it.

I live in NorCal where the older mostly Buddhist Vietnamese immigrants have been wearing masks outside since they got here in the 70's. Brought the practice from their country. Didn't need to learn the language. Those older folks made it much easier to get the rest of the younger Vietnamese community (still lots of Buddhists) wearing masks. My Buddhist neighbors are awesome.

Or until the house is condemned for sanitation violations because it has no power or running water. ;)

I have the same situation on Long Island due to the poorest needing public transportation and not being able to do service work from home.

Well my mother's side of the family just HAD to get together at Christmas at my 89 year old grandmother's house. About a week ago, I got a phone call from my father that according to the hospice nurse she's dying and they're not sure how long she has. Today, I get another phone call from my dad- everyone at grandma's Christmas gathering has COVID, including him and my mother. What a farking coincidence. Many of them are FOX News watchers and I think I finally got the push to go no contact for good. And my grandmother, actively dying, I can't go see because I skipped Christmas and don't have COVID. I don't even have words for how I feel right now.

So is Christianity which is why I used the term.  So virtually all major religions.  The common theme in religious based transfer seems to follow exactly the same pattern all over the world.  The Jedis seem to be one of the few local crazy religious groups that weren't implicated in breaking the rules to spread it. The census says about 0.37% are Jedi and the convention centre and theaters closed down their meeting place.

The story that keeps repeating here is that someone that is often a poor refugee who works in a meat packing plant or cleaning catches it, takes it home, infects their parents and kids.  The parents take it to Church/Temple/Mosque and spread it there and the teenaged kids take it to similar families on the other side of town to repeat.  That slowed down once the 5 km travel restrictions and 8 pm curfew started.  The curfew did seem to cut down on regional spread in Melbourne.

The state health officer personally went to go visit some of the problem communities and found out that the instructions given to the refugees weren't correct as he is someone fluent in Arabic. While the teenagers grew up going to school here and speak english, there can be a real language barrier between them and their grandparents.  The language issues also locks people into poverty and that combined with most foreign language services offered by the government are targeted towards immigrants that have to know english compared to the refugees who sometimes only speak a rare dialect.

Our bars were closed very early on but our policy was to stop the virus and now there are only 300 active cases in the entire country.

There is a group that seems to be almost a prosperity gospel evangelical Buddhist.  I have no idea how that theology works.

I just saw "monster hunter" in a theater last week with my son. And ww84 last month.

Theaters aren't going away. You just gave to come to New Zealand, wait through the 2 week quarantine, see whatever movie is playing, then go home.
