Subby, were you unable to come up with any other examples of game companies buying a dev shop? Do you really think that Microsoft is the only example here?

I don't understand... is it meant to be inciteful?

Perhaps subby is trying to incite a heated debate.

Next you'll tell me that once in a while Apple will buy companies that have been exclusively developing iOS apps.  And besides its Nintendo, I'll let the kids know and see if they give a crap.

Oh no! Now we'll never see Luigi's Mansion on Playstation!

Microsoft easily comes to mind because of their buying splurge over the last couple of years.  Sure, EA recently snatched up Codemaster, but that's still not as prominent as Microsoft splurging billions on Bethesda.

/Who knows what distortions occur when anything passes through subby's prism of a mind

Nintendo has needed another quality, multi-genre 2nd-party development studio ever since they sold off Rare (almost 20 years ago? Wow) to Microsoft. Retro Studios seems to be unable to do anything that isn't Metroid Prime or Donkey Kong-related. Since Next Level has basically worked exclusively with Nintendo anyway since about 2012, this isn't like MS buying Bungie or Bethesda.

NGL has already been an unofficial 2nd party developer for Nintendo. This is just making it official. So no big surprises here.

I was meaning inciteful... I absolutely thought maybe subby wanted a heated discussion of flamewar.

That is Luigi's ancestral home.

Nintendo would probably end up selling them off and Microsoft ends up buying them off in a Rare move.
