Honestly given how close people are normally when seated around a poker table i would have cancelled the event for year if a good way could not be found to do it virtually and given the money at stake and the temptation some might have to try to cheat i'd have not risked a virtual version.

I will repeat something I said in another thread about this and then add to it:

This is a pure money grab by Caesar's, who own the WSOP. No one was demanding that this happen and I've heard that a few players boycotted it because they saw it the same way.

Also, they did have online versions. They gave out a bunch of bracelets in WSOP online events, both in the US and internationally back in September.
