Being a comm officer she was probably a restricted line officer which meant she could never command a ship.  So if she made admiral it would be a staff position at Star Fleet.

Her work with NASA has been incalculably awesome. I'm saddened to learn of her declining health.

No snark, I hope she knows it's her birthday without being told.

I saw her at a Comicon in Ottawa a few years ago.  Her body was onstage, but her marbles were somewhere out on the final frontier.

That said, I also talked to her at her autograph table, and she was gracious and warm and quite lucid.

I don't feel bad at all about asking a bookstore to correct their signage for her book to make sure her first name was spelled right. Yeah, she or her publisher would never see it, but it's still important.

A young me met Nichols and Nimoy at a Toys R Us in Houston about a million years ago.

Through some trick of Vulcan mind melding, they knew me by name.  It made for a lifelong happy place inside my addled brain.

At least she'd know Morse code.

She could handle one ping then. That's enough for some guys.

The "fan dance" sequence came 15 years too late.  Still, she seemed like an awesome lady.

There was at least one episode when Kirk left Sulu and Uhura in charge of the bridge. I remember reading that the director ensured that the scene played out as if that was no big deal and it happened all the time.

As a midshipman i was left in command of the bridge.  The senior chief leaned over and whispered "don't you say a farking word unless I tell you to"

To which I replied "thank you senior chief"

Hell, a fan-dance today would still work (broken hips are sexy, no?), and still be awkward and out of place as the first one.

Careful. She gets ornery when people talk about her age.

What a great lady.  You can argue she's an historical figure with MLK urging her to stay on Trek.  I wish she had been given more lines though.

Pretty sure that was a completely made up story, what with all of the different versions she's told over the years.
